2013 Fair Lakes, VA C & C (Kohl's) Thread
Great weather brought out a real crowd. There were several Jaguars there, and three of us - Bob A, Dirk & I - went directly from the Cars & Coffee to the auto detailing clinic.
This is a really nice event, held every Sunday. The start time is between 8:00AM and 8:30AM, and usually breaks up by 11:00AM. A really nice way to see beautiful cars (of all kinds), and meet other car people.

If this is November weather, I'm all for it! A fairly clear morning, and temperatures in the high 40's at 7:30AM. A good crowd, and we even had 3 Jaguars in attendance. Cheryl F. drove her XKE, and Bob & Bev brought their two XKR's. I brought my other British car...

We are really very lucky in the Northern Virginia area - we are able to choose between several cars & coffee events, every weekend. I really enjoy Katie's on Saturdays - one of the premier weekly events of its type on the East Coast.
On Sundays, I drive about 4 miles from my house to another event that has expanded steadily - the Fair Lakes, VA Cars & Coffee. Bob Williams saw a need, organized a weekly get-together, and has grown this event impressively. I started going in November of 2010, when it was a small group of people showing up every week. It's now my venue of choice for one-marque events - I have organized special gatherings for both Lotus and Jaguar at Fair Lakes, and it works out nicely.
We only had two cars to represent Jaguar this week - I drove my XK Coupe, and Bob Williams drove his Lister-Jag replica. If you haven't seen it, you should - it's AMAZING. Need any other reasons to attend? This morning, we had at least 6 Ferraris, a '32 Ford roadster, a Mercedes SLS (gullwing) parked next to a Merc-McLaren, at least 3 Acura NSX's, and more German cars than I could count. If you can't find several cars that fascinate you at this event, turn in your 'car-guy card'.

Slightly damp roads, overcast skies and cool temperatures kept some, but certainly not all, attendees away. Still, not a bad crowd... No Jaguars there today, in fact, my Lotus was the only English car there.
It was a 'Shelby' day for Bobert, and his wife, Bev.

A bitter cold morning, but it did not keep the crowds away! Bobert & I tried to make amends for not driving our Jaguars Saturday, when all the E- and F-Types were at Katies.
Seemed like it was 'group' day at Fair Lakes - there were 9 BMW M5's, as well as the normal group of Mopars, Camaros, Corvettes, and others...

It's December, and cold. I'm often asked how long people keep coming to our Cars & Coffee events, once winter comes. On this cold, clear Sunday, the answer was apparent - we will have a good crowd any time it's not raining, or snow is not on the ground. We had two XKs there today, to represent Jaguar.

I'm often asked, 'When does Cars & Coffee end for the year?' That answer varies - for instance, local news and weather has been warning of an incoming snow and ice storm for several days. Most locals know that this is almost always an exaggeration. I checked the web, and saw that precipitation was not due in our area until 10AM, which allowed for a nice 8:00AM - 10:00AM car event, which is perfect for me.
Below are pictures from our morning. Tom brought his Corvette, and Matt his Lexus. We had a good time, but not much company.
The first picture is my Elise, with the top off, at 7:45AM. The picture of snow on my seats is minutes after 8:00AM. The final pictures are right before I drove home, at 8:30AM. There you have it - all the fun of a Cars & Coffee, compressed into 45 minutes!

You probably thought nobody would show up on a cold mid-December Sunday... WRONG! The faithful, led by a large contingent of Mopar guys, came out in fair numbers. ...and, let's not forget the guy who drove his TR6 with the top down! At least there was no snow, and some sunshine this weekend.
Bobert drove his XKR, and I had my XK. Chuck drove his Porsche.

An unusual day, to say the least. It's December 22, but it was 69F at 7:00AM, but with a few sprinkles. Will anyone show up for cars & coffee? Normally, wet roads cut down a lot on attendance, and active rain all but kills any participation. This week, a couple of factors worked against these tendencies - first off, it's the weekend before Christmas. Secondly, last week we had snow on the ground, and many regulars hate missing two weeks in a row. Finally, IT'S WARM OUT!
The wet roads kept away the Ferrari owners, as expected. I was surprised to only see two German cars - they're usually abundant in 'weather'. Several groups arranged online to gather today - lots of Ford Focus, several Camaros, the usual group of Mopar guys, as well as two NSX. We had 4 Jaguars, plus two that drove by. Bobert and I drove our XK's, and the Andy from Chantilly Jaguar brought out a V8 F-Type.
All-in-all, not a bad rainy morning.

This morning, it was raining HARD. That's about the only thing that would keep me (and several others) from showing up to the Fair Lakes cars & coffee event on a Sunday. Since this is the last Sunday of the year, it's a good time to review some of the amazing people and cars that we have seen at Fair Lakes in 2013.
We had two Jaguar events, and they were well attended. We will do those events again in 2014.
