Default Another noob

Own a jag x-type manual 02, 2.5 in the NW. Trying to figure out how to install the ACM and also figure out why the whirring sound from my kitty, came across this site and figured I'd join up.

Welcome from another NW member. Post a bit more about your car and yourself, have a look around and when you have full access you can do some research.

pseudo, welcome to the Forums. I think you will find this place to be very nice to hang out and we tend to be a little bit different than most sites. I lived in Bremerton for 10 years, so, I know your area all too well (was just back there in July).

As for your whirring problem, can you be a little bit more specific with that. Ie, only happens when driving down the road, only happens when braking, dependent on the speed of the engine, etc. The more info you can pass my way, the more likely I can diagnose the car for you.

As for the ACM, did you remove the old one and can't remember how to install it, or what else is going on. Again, the more info you can pass my way, the more likely I can give you exactly the info you are after.

Welcome to the group and hope to hear a lot more from you.

Thanks for the kind words, mods.

Thermo the whirring problem is as described in my Thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=42344. In a nutshell, when I rev the engine up to around 3000 RPM (under load or not) I hear this high pitched whirr/rattle that comes from my engine. I opened up the hood and it seems to come from the left part of the engine near the pulley but nothing obviously rubbing against anything else there.

ACM - Trying to do a new install, now that I got full access I can look at the ACM install PDF sticky and figure this out.

pseudo, I would take a look at your alternator. I would venture to guess that the bearings inside of the alternator are starting to go. To confirm this, get your hands on what are called "mechanic stethoscopes". They have a metal rod with doctors stethoscope ear bugs attached. You place the metal rod against metal parts of the engine and you can hear the noise inside the steel. In your case, you would simply start probing around and trying to find where the noise is the loudest. This is your point of your whirring sound and from there, you can figure out the solution. They are like $20 at your local autoparts store. Should save you a lot of hassle and frustration since you will be able to know what is causing the sound and then only have to make a single repair vice having to guess as to what is wrong and what is not.

Thermo, Apparently the foreman and the assistant both used the stethoscope to figure out the problem but couldnt. Now they need to remove the transfer case and figure out what the prob is and thats a 5-6 hr job (600$) and if I decline the work then its another 6 hr job to put it back together so in all 1200. This thread is tracking my saga.. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...310#post247310
