Check engine light?
Jon, odds are, you are dealing with something fairly insignificant like a small vacuum leak. But, like the others have said, the codes will tell you a lot about what the computer is not liking. With the codes, we can then tell you pretty much down to the component what will need some TLC.
Apparently the lambda sensors are okay but the fuel came up as lean, I don't use super market fuel!
The light cleared a few days back but came on again today...... Stumped as no fault codes came up!

So if I have a possible air leak, how do I check or is it a garage job?
Thanks all for help so far.

ropetec, the X-Type normally suffers from 3 common vacuum leaks. The first one to check is the brake booster line that runs from the top of the intake manifold to the brake booster cylinder. Where you want to especially look is at the "football" (actually it is a check valve) in the middle of the line. Rub the plastic and look at it. If the plastic is crumbling in your hand or it looks like you have a crack in that piece, replace that hose (brake booster line). Next, remove the cover off of the engine and then look to the left of the intake tube. You should see a line the diameter of your thumb running from the front valve cover to the intake just downstream of the throttle body. Check the underside of that hose. Do you see a split in that hose? Is the hose ribbed? If the hose is smooth or you see a split, you need a new hose (PCV valve hose). Finally, if you are looking at the engine, look to your left on the intake. You should see 2 large black circles on the end of the intake. These are you tuning valves for getting more power out of your engine at higher RPMs. Undo the top valve by removing the 2 screws and pull the valve out about 3 CM. Is the o-ring there in good condition and green in color. If the o-ring looks questionable or is black in color, replace both o-rings (on a side note, the lower o-ring will require a little finesse to get out, you will undo the 2 bolts, slide the IMT valve out slightly, then you will need to get ahold of the old o-ring and then stretch it to slide over the end of the IMT valve, otherwise you are goign to have to pull the top half of the intake off to get at that o-ring).
This will give you a start as to where to find your problem. Granted, having the CEL light on and no codes has me a little confused. At a minimum the shop should have gotten the P1111 or P1000 codes.
