Great idea and looks real good. It may have been a Jag prototype.
To make a sedan into a convertible wouldn't be much more problem problem
than worrying about the frame sagging from the loss of the supporting structure of the roof. Now making a four door into a two door would be the trick. I am sure for enough money it could be done.

I'm fairly sure that's just a manipulated photo, but around the time the X-Type was hitting the market many sources talked about the X-Type convertible as if it was already obvious. Perhaps there was some misunderstanding.

Well that xtype is a prototype that never got built in production. Making the four door a two door is not necessary for some cars like my own custom 83 volvo 240 convertible:

Default You've never forgotten what kind of car you have?

I am an idiot. I have a 99 Jaguar XK8 - had to go out to the garage to double check.

The S-Type estate is nicely done, and the XJ convertible & estate look pretty good too. Although, frankly, an XJ estate would be a pretty risky move. Still, I wonder whether they'd bring something akin to the XJS, a luxurious grand tourer rather than just another sports car?

I didn't notice this earlier but, that X-Type convertible is a 2-seater.
