extra key fob programming

extra key fob programming
Hi, I'm new to the forums and have a question which hopefully someone will be able to answer.
I have a 2004 Sportwagon Canadian spec, and have recently bought 2 extra key fobs for the car. The key blanks have been cut by the dealer, and work, but each time I program the fobs, they supersede the previous fob programming. In other words, I program the second fob, and then the first won't work, and when I program the first fob then the second won't work. I read somewhere that the car should take up to 5 key fobs, so don't understand why this is happening. Is there a procedure to 'dump' the existing key fobs from memory so I can program all 3 key fobs and they all work, as opposed to only 1 at a time????
Need help PLEASE!

When programming the keys, all the keys need to be programmed at the same time, including the current programmed keys. Going through the procedure each key button needs to be pressed quickly between the fobs to get them all recognized. I had the same issue. No dumping necessary, the key program overage will automatically be deleted.

I did try that earlier on but didn't get the 'chime' like I did this afternoon, perhaps I wasn't switching between key pos. I & II quickly enough. I am switching from I to II 4 times, then removing the key and pressing a fob button, as I said in my original post, it worked this afternoon, but only on one fob at a time, so when I try it again tomorrow I will press 1 button on each fob after doing the pos.I & II 4 times in rapid succession. I'm assuming this is the correct procedure to program the fobs? If there is a different way, please advise. Thanks again

in addition to the original one that I got with the car.
I have always read that in order to add any more keys you need...
TWO original keys.
Any keys that have been cloned are no use for the task.
The key blanks have been cut by the dealer, and work,
( without the good key being close to the ignition lock?)

Henry, the new keys don't set off the alarm, I have only tried them in the ignition with to make sure the cut was right.
Jack, yes, it's just the fobs I'm trying to program
Motorcar man, Thanks for the link, I had actually found the same thing overnight, so that's the procedure I'll be following when I get to the car later today.
Thanks to everyone for their help, I will post the results of my efforts later this evening.
Cheers

I assume you mean they will open the door but does the alarm then sound and do they start the car?

OK, I've got the fobs to work, finally, all three lock and unlock etc.
. but the keys, that physically fit, and turn, won't start the car. So now I need to program the key transponders
As hlgeorge says
I think the keys need the Jag computer to be programmed.
It seems that if the right software and OBII connector is available it can be done yourself.

If the car is an X Type then the following link shows how to program keys to start your car. But only if you already have 2 working keys (which it appears you don't have).
Anyway I'll put the link on, the relevant part is at the end - PATS System 2.

Hey Motorcarman, is it really as easy as the instructions in the Service Bulletin you posted. I'd like to buy these key FOBs on Ebay:

Here's my current FOB, only the mechanical key works.
The IC chip came unsoldered and there is black goop under the lock and unlock buttons.
