Default Horns not working

Just acquired a 2005 x-type
The horns do not sound at all... Fuse is good, relays click when horn button depressed... Thought about whacking the horn with something while someone else has the button depressed ;-) I would have to find them first...

Any ideas?

Do any of the other controls on the steering wheel not work? If so, it may be the clock spring under the airbag. These can go bad pretty easily.

As the relay clicks, the clockspring, GEM, etc should be fine. As you haven't found the horns you won't have checked their earth/ground. The ground point is the outboard one of the two under the lefthand headlight assembly. The horns are under the battery box.

The relay might click, but also check that when it does, 12 v is getting through the relay to Fuse F38, 20A in the Main Distribution fuse box - the one under the hood.

Check horn connector with control light or multi tester.

Default Update

Tested voltage at fuse box- solid 12 v when horn button pressed

Located horn under battery box- found connecter covered in duct tape

Removed super sticky tape

Unplugged connecter

Checked voltage at connecter, solid 12 v when horn button pressed

Bad horn?

If horn connector has voltage and ground, horn is possibly bad.
Check horn resistance, it should be 2-10 Ohms. Remove horn and connect it to battery using jumper wires. Sometimes horns have adjusting bolt, you need to adjust it.
If resistance is infinite, horn is bad.

Thumbs up

Removed old horns- wire connecter also tested bad-

Bought after market horns of similar shape, bolted them on to the bracket.

Cut wire connecters and used butt connecters and 18 gauge automotive wire to direct wire the horns...

Works! Thanks for the help and ideas.
