Default Pay for ABS ring replacement or junk the car?

Unfortunately I have at least 2 of the 4 abs rings on my car that need to be replaced. This means that the ABS is turning on all the time when I am braking. From my research it will cost me thousands to fix this (mainly due to the labor of getting to the rings, most places don't just replace the rings they replace the outer CV joint as well). Other than this my car does not have any major issues. I have been driving my car like this for almost a year and it is getting worse over time. There is also no way to disable the ABS as far as I'm aware, except maybe disconnecting the ABS sensors (but I'm not sure if that will put my car into limp mode, also I think that would disable my cruise control possibly?). What are my options here? I recently replaced a rear wheel hub assembly (which wasn't very difficult), but I think replacing the outer CV joint is more than I'm willing to do myself.

Perhaps get an actual estimate and go from there? I wouldn't junk an otherwise well running car because of this.

I had an ABS fault that we traced to corrosion on the hub that was causing the sensor to go out of range.
Put a washer on it and problem solved.

As Steve M says above, put an 8mm washer between the sensor and the hub. Takes ten minutes. You don't even have to jack the car if it's both rears. Worth a try.
Worked perfectly for me.

Does that fix my problem if I have verified (on at least one) that the ring is all rusted and has spots that are broken?

If the ring is rusted and uneven, the washer may well fix the problem. If the reluctor ring is actually split, you need to replace it.

Yes there are areas where it is split. I suppose I can try the washer thing to see if it helps.

I am just wondering if it is possible to change the ring without removing the drive shaft. If you remove the bearing carrier/hub, which is dead easy, you are left with an 85mm diameter hole in the mount. There's quite a lot of wiggle room on the shaft and you can easily see the ring. Could the old ring be cut off with a Dremel or similar? The new ring could then be pushed on from the outside. The ring may have to be deformed very slightly to get it through the hole.
I don't even know if this is possible, but I don't see why not. Anyone ever tried?
