Default Pdc not working

My PDC is not working - I have rear and front. When I put the car into reverse it beeps like it should, but the red light continues flashing which indicates, that there is a PDC fault - I have tried the trick by putting the in reverse and listen to all sensors for the clicking sound - but no clicking sound in all the sensors.

The PDC module seems dry, but I have have a little water near the spare tyre. could the PDC module be wet inside?

byrnel, if you don't have sound from any sensor, then you either have a bad module or the power to the the module is toast. What year car do you have and I can tell you the fuse(s) that you may need to look at to verify that it is not a power issue.

As for water and modules, it is hard to say if you have a bad module based on what you are describing. Some modules are water tight and therefore, just being in a water prone area will not affect them. While other modules could be affected simply by being in a humid area and then having water collect on the boards and causing corrosion that way.

It is a 2008 2.5 Estate (facelift) - I THINK that the power is OK because I have the beep from the rear, when I put it in reverse? but as mentioned the red light is flashing in the roof

byrnel, I guess the other question that I have is: did you check the front sensors? Yes, there are sensors up front to help guide you into your parking spot and if one of those sensors were to fail, you will get what you are seeing.

I guess re-reading what you are talking about, I am a bit confused too. If you are not hearing any clicking/chirping from the sensors, then you shouldn't be getting the beeping from the system working correctly. I guess the question I need to ask is whether you are getting 1 long tone (5 seconds or so) or if you are getting a pulsed signal that speeds up as you get closer to an object? The long pulse says that the system is not functioning properly where the short pulses are indicating that the sensors are functioning.

I am getting the long tone and after that no sounds what so ever, only the red light in the roof flashing rapidly in 10-15 secs indicating, that the system has a fault.

I have also check the front sensors, no clicking even if i put my ear against the sensors

byrnel, well, I looked at the diagrams and from what I can tell based on what you have said, your problem lies internal to the control box. So, you will need to access the Parking Aide module in the spare tire well and replace it. Doing some "paper troubleshooting", anything that could go wrong outside of the module would leave either some of the sensors chirping or the system would be completely dead.

Thanks a lot, I think you are right, do I need exactly the same module or is there any smart solutions. i.e a module from Ford Mondeo?

Well Thermo, you were right, I have disconnected the module and opend it - clearly signs from Water, only a Little, but I can see a Black spot in the Electronic, now I just have to find a cheap used module - I think I will wrap it in plastic NeXT time. Thanks for all your help

byrnel, you might be able to get the module out of a Mondeo as they do share a lot of parts. Just not sure if it would be the exact some module though. If you look on e-bay, they have a bunch of modules that may do the trick for you for around $50 (USD). All you would have to do is to match up the part number (starts with either 1X43 or 4X43) and then match up the numbers from there. Then you can install the part yourself. Save you a bunch in the end.

On a side note, could you take a picture of the back up module insides. Maybe based on a picture I can tell you if it can be fixed or not and if it is something that you can do yourself (would need to know your soldering abilities) or it may be something that you can take to a "DC Specialist" (normally they rebuild alternators and starters, but sometimes will fix electronic modules) and then see what they say. You may be able to get out the door for fairly cheap that way too.
