Default Please Help a S Type Guy...

I'm trying to help the owner of a "super rare" S Type with a manual transmission locate a replacement shift knob. It got me thinking... just like the threaded shifter shaft is the same across multiple models.... maybe the X Type has the same type of shifter mount on a manual transmission car. Also, there are a Ton more X Type manual transmission cars in North America.

Here is a link to the thread..

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...13/#post581456

And here are his pictures of the shifter stem / shaft.

u could start by going to the right forum, this is x type not s type

anyways... call the dealer give them the VIN and they should be able to provide u with a part number. Then google the part number. if you dont like what u see you could buy some sort of universal knob...

Best of luck!!!

I'm pretty sure the above in bold is why JOs posted it here and not the S-type section.

I just hate to see a guy running around with a beat up knob.

The part numbers for the X Type are not the same as the S Type.

S Type part number is XR810117 followed by the 3 letter trim code.

How does the X-Type Manual Trans. Shift Knob mount? Is it threaded like the automatic or different, like maybe the picture in my original post?

Even if they have different part numbers the two may cross over.. IE there are switches and such that have different part numbers but cross models as well.

I know exactly what forum I am in.

I was asking in my original post if the manual shift knob mounts in the same way.... geeeze... And I'm just trying to help another forum member work out his issue since there are fewer manual transmission S-Types around than the R's.....

See what I get for trying to think outside the tranny-box... LOL..

Jeff,

I've checked the Parts Manual and the Jaguar Accessories Brochure. If it was an automatic, X-Type would be compatible!

The manual shift on the X-Type appears to be on a round threaded lever whereas the S-Type is a square ended lever. As has been suggested earlier, I think your best chance for an OE Jaguar gear knob is a UK breaker.

There's several aftermarket ones with suitable adaptors listed on eBay UK. Here's an example:

Black/Chrome Round Leather Gear Knob for Jaguar S X Type XK XF XK8 XKR Coupe XJ | eBay

Sorry you got a mauling for posting this here.

Graham

Thanks Graham.

Funny thing is that one post would have been sufficient to answer my question.... LOL

Over in S Land the user is now looking to get his original recovered. All good.
