Default Radio code

Hi,
I bought a used X-Type 2.2 diesel 2 years ago and the original owner didn't give me the radio code. I thought nothing of it at the time, but now I've had to change my battery and the radio is blocked. The local *********** say they can hack the unit and get the code for around 100 euros, but I think that's way too much money. Is there a way to get the radio code just based on the VIN, or maybe there's a default radio code for all units?
Thanks in advance.

Ring a jaguar dealership with proof of ownership and VIN and they should give it you over the phone.

I have seen posts where people have used a combination of the radio buttons to bypass the code, you may have to search for that.

They wanted 100 euros for the job.

I would say they are trying to rip you off. Try Jaguar customer service in UK.

There is no reason a Jaguar Dealer would have to 'hack' anything to get the radio code. They all have access to this information on the Direct Dealer Warranty system where it is recorded as part of the original build specification.

Whether and how much your local dealer chooses to charge for this information is their own decision.

try this, worked on mine which is an Alpine, I also e-mailed a few jag dealers in the UK, one said to take in with paperwork another just sent me the code.

There are also sites, just google for them that will charge about $19 to give you the code

pty + mix + mode (press together a few times at the same time)

and after that:

pty + mix + fast forward (press together a few times at the same time)

Hold down NEXT + A MEM + PTY at the same time. For US should work for you.

Default Is Mine Strange?

I had my water pump replaced on my X-Type. My mechanic told me that he had to remove the battery to get to the water pump. I immediately asked him if my radio worked. He gave me a strange look. It did work; I did not have to re-set any code/s. I have an '03 2.5 US model. I only had to re-set the windows and my radio settings. I have a friend who has SAABS. His older SAAB needed to have the radio code entered when the battery was disconnected.

The radio coding was introduced to make theft of car radios a useless 'little earner' for the less than honest members of European/UK populace!! Being so much better behaved over the pond, the feature is often not included in vehicles sold there. It's not a programable On/Off setting - you've either got it or you haven't.

Look around in your original owner's manual if you still have it..Some folks write the 4 digit number down in the book somewhere...otherwise look around for a credit card size green plastic card...it will have the code on it.

good luck
