Spark Plug Change
Hello all, I am nearing 70k miles and per the maintanence sheets on JTIS 70k is the interval for changing the spark plugs. Granted I am not looking forward to the job and will tackle it myself I was wanting to know what was reccomended for spark plugs.

and the Autolite and Champion pop up for OEM replacements.
Do the OE sparkplugs need to be changed out after 70k and the next plugs I put in there I hope to have be a longer life plug...so I am leaning towards Platinums or Iridiums. I like the specs on Champion's Gold Plugs as well but I am not sure of their longevity.
Any info and insight would be most appreciated!

Longer that 70k miles is quite a big request but putting in good plugs is for sure the right thing.
I got plugs at the local Ford Dealer, I pulled one from my front bank and they had the same plug there. They were a third the price that the Jag dealer wanted for the exact same plug.
Dont be daunted by pulling the intake manifold. It is quick and easy. Just make sure that everything is spotlessly clean for re assembly, and dont drop anything into the open ports when it is off.

Also i am not sure what type of gasket is used on the intake manifold but you are probably going to want to have one of those handy when changing the plugs as it will probably need replacing.

Are the OE plugs just a standard copper core sparl plug (meaning no fine-wire electrodes or precious metals used i.e. iridium, platinum, gold-palladium)?

the intake gaskets are silicone and re-useable. best to clean them up first though.
yes the oem plugs are special.. that is why they last so long. It comes along with having to remove the intake. Replacing the plugs is more work than other cars. It makes good sense to use long life plugs.

My old car was a 92 Infiiniti Q45 and that had a V8 in it and the plugs on that car were a biotch. It was a good 4 hour job easy.

Dennis, I am looking to do the plugs on my car as it is sitting at 87K miles and I don't know if the plugs have been messed with or not. I just got the car 3K miles ago. So, I figured I would pull the plugs and stick in some double platinum plugs. Sure they are a few dollars more, but atleast in my Expedition, guys have been getting well over 100K miles from a set of plugs. Ford doesn't even recommend looking at the plugs in their trucks until 100K miles. I pulled mine both times at 60K mile intervals and they looked almost new. What sort of pics are you looking for? If you need someone to do a "how-to", I can do that. I've done a few for my truck club.
As a side topic, would running something like a Split Fire or the Bosch +4's yield anything? I know in my truck, they netted nothing except for a lighter wallet. But, I figure if I am putting in new plugs and can gain a little something, then might as well go for it.

I'm pretty sure I can do my plugs myself...I think that "How to blog" posted above will be everything I'll need..I was just hoping for the sake of future questions about changing plugs, that a picture tutorial would be nice to have here..
As far as the kind of plug?..I would go with whatever the dealer puts in..I would however try to find them at a lower price than what the dealer charges, like Bo mentioned....If I was in question about their condition..try pulling one of the front three and see how they look.

I, too have been meaning to tackle this project.
My money is that these plugs are double plats. Even further, it wouldn't surprise me if they are the same as the 2.5L/3L Duratec family (Motorcraft: AGSF32FM, Autolite: APP764; all the same). Been so busy around these parts as of late, haven't had a chance to open her up. [:'(]
