The Jaguar JF506E info can more easily found with search for VW 09A gearbox.

I have replaced all the solenoids in a VW 09A with a kit from a transmission parts seller on the internet. (I forget the seller)
All solenoids as a kit is much less expensive than all purchased from the VW parts dept.

Just replace the parts one-by-one as you go along.
I used a razor blade to hold the threaded studs sticking out of the valve body on some of the solenoids because they can fall back into the mount hole.

motorcarman,
Could you please elaborate on how you used the razor blade.
Thanks Howard

The 'studs' holding the solenoids are actually BOLTS (M6x1.25) and the hex is held captive BUT they can be pushed into the valve body when the nut is removed.

To keep this from happening, I hold a razor blade against the threads of the bolt when removing/installing the solenoid AND while installing the nut to secure the solenoid.

A small magnet could possibly pull the bolt back into position IF it gets pushed into the valve body. I don't know how far they can be pushed or whether they can fall inside something if they go too far. (A VW mechanic at the VW dealer told me about this 'trick')

I never let a bolt get away from me so I don't know the consequences.

mototcarman,
I purchased the solenoids you recommended and have some questions that I need your help with.
One of the bolts holding the pan at the top is next to what appears to be a vent and I cannot get a wrench on it. Can the vent cap be removed? if so how?
Did you replace the trans filter? Is the filter accessible after the pan is removed?
Do you know the torque spec for the pan bolts?
Any info/procedure you have on removing and replacing the pan and filter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Howard

Been a long time since I replaced solenoids in a JATCO gearbox.

The cap needs to be removed for bolt access.
The fine mesh screen filter is NOT serviceable. It is buried DEEP in the gearbox.

I just use a 1/4 drive ratchet for torquing the M6 bolts so I have no idea what the actual spec is.
I have been working on Jaguars for almost 50 years and after a few decades, you just get a 'feel' for small bolts so they don't snap and yet become tight enough to seal the flange.

There is probably a universal torque spec for M6 bolts like there is a universal spec for SAE bolts.

motorcarman,
Because of all your help, I now have 8 solenoids replaced. The last one I am trying to replace is N93. To remove this one there is a wiring connector above it that must be removed. I have pulled on it but could not disconnect it. I cannot see any locking mechanism. Do you remember how you removed/disconnected this connector?
Thanks,
Howard
