Look closely at the hose from the brake booster to the intake especially where the grey check valve is. Also the breather hose running forward to back from pcv valve to intake. The latter you may have to take off and inspect underside for a split. But if you are hearing it from inside the car...maybe something different.
As for the other noise.....maybe center bearing on the drive shaft.

I think this is the noise I may be having as well. I notice my car makes this noise only when I shift into second gear and it starts at about 1700 rpm and stops at about 2200 rpm but never happens again in any other gear other than 2nd gear. I was told by the person who i got the car from its a viscious coupling and its only a $300 fix but I wouldnt hold my breath on a $300 fix but maybe could be a viscous coupling. I will know in a couple of weeks when i get my car checked out so I will keep you guys posted.

Sorry to hear bro, I cant tell if you are hearing the same noise i hear. I hear mine when more now when i turn left. i wish i could help you on that noise, but i cant figure it out yet.

as for the mpg, sounds good to me cause i get 13-15mpg cause i only average 11mph of just city driving. If your due for a fuel filter replace it and take your car out of sport mode, that helps me get to 15 mpg

the noise you speak of, does it go away when you break?? have you rolled the windows down and tried to locate it? maybe have someone drive your car by you on a side street (i have this done about every other month) you would be surprised what you hear when you are out side the car.

So... why resurrect it? (You're causing clutter.)

And it looks like he has an XK. Not sure why he is even posting in the X-Type section or if he even has a question.

Well I was resurrecting it because (wait for it) I have a weird whistle and want to know what it is. I was hoping someone would see it and respond, but I suppose I'll just get snarky responses. So sorry to have cluttered your feed!

Didn't mean to sound snarky, but in your post you did not say you were having a problem. All you did was leave a sarcastic sounding comment-no question, no description of your issue; nothing. Based on that and that as best we know you do not even have an X-Type, how are we to know you wanted help? If you search on here and can't find an answer, then start a new thread. It would be nice if every thread had closure, but every forum has hundreds or thousands of threads where someone stops in, makes a random post or two and then never folllows it through to conclusion.

Start a new thread in the forum of the model you have and I would guess you will get some replies from people willing to help.

The engine Crankcase Vent hose to the PCV valve fails and the vacuum leak will make a 'hissing' sound. There is an updated hose that is more reinforced available.

Some TSBs for other faults.

I had a whistle a while back, it was driving me bug frak nuts. Would come and go at different intervals.

I finally realized I was sitting on hot leather seats and had eaten beans the day before!! Whistle problem solved, lmfao! (Btw, the methane smell left as well) :-) :-) :-)
