I have been offered some nice wheels off an XK will they fit my X Type
they are 245/40 ZR 18 fronts and 275/40 ZR 18'S rears i think the fronts will be ok but the rears to wide

if that is the case is it just a matter of changing the tyres or are the wheels them selves wider

i think getting 235/35/ZR18 is the best size that you can go with

so the wheels your talkin about are to big thay will not fit

Won't work. 235's are about as wide as you can go without other modifications.

 

Is their a chart or reference somewhere about compatability of other Jaguar wheels to our beloved X's?

 

lymeboy, there is no real chart like what you are after that I know of. Pretty much you need to be able to find a set of rims with the same bolt pattern and then look at the offset the rims have and go from there. In short, you need to find rims that have a 5x108mm bolt pattern with +40mm offset on a 7.5" wide rim. If you set up to an 8" wide rim, then you need to find a rim with +34mm offset.

Unfortunately, you can't go much wider than 8" rims or you will be running into a clearance issue with the wheel wells. Along those same lines, going much wider than a 235 tire will normally also result in rubbing. As for rim diameter, most agree that you can run 18's with no issues, 19's if you go with a pretty low profile tire and 20's are pretty hard if not next to impossible to make work with out some sort of rubbing. But, as the saying goes in the truck world, if you get a bit of tire rubbing, it isn't anything that a large hammer can't fix. But then, this is coming from a guy that is running 37x12.5's on a Ford Expedition with only a 4" lift and has no rubbing. Hmmm, I wonder how that happened, lots of hammering in the right spots, a bit of cutting on the bumper and wha-la.

You can look at the S-Types as they use the same bolt pattern as our X-Types. As for the other models in the Jag line-up, a little bit of research will be needed.

thanks for the info. very helpful. I am probably going to look for a set of wheels for dedicated snow tires. I live in Maine.
