Has anyone tinted their X type Windows before?

I know over here it's not that common, you would see mercs with Windows tinted but why not jags.

My Xtype is green and I was thinking of maybe tinting them in the future a nice 50% green tint but ive no idea how it would look
Maybe black might look good too

Also what about jaguar mud/dust flaps?

I think a lot of Mercs and Beamers have tinted windows because most decent people would be embarrassed to be seen in them.

(Just joking).

 

But if a Jaguar owner would tint their windows green would that mean they are green with envy?

my car is green so i think a very light shade of green might look really good , i dont want to hide in my car i want to show her off if anything

I found this. Green color is somewhat similar to the X-Type green Doesn't look as bad to me as I thought it would, but I still don't think that would be for me-Jaguar or Mercedes.

That shade is a little too dark for my liking , also it doesn't match the colour of that car so it looks horrible haha I think a light tint might suit a green car, I must try find a picture online somewhere

Half doing it like this wouldn't be my cup of tea, you either do it all or dont do it at all. The green shade im not so sure about, i think black might be the safe option

Luke, In the U.S. It is State specific on the degree of darkness allowed by law on the front side Windows. You cannot fully darken in nearly every state the example you showed above. In darkening the windows, the law also states the natural existing tint of the window must be factored in to the end result darkness factor. Also some states (mine = Utah) includes no reflective (privacy type) can be used anywhere. The police here actually carry a device they place against the window that measures the passthrough lighting. Fail = a big fat ticket.

Utah State Law =

Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line or top 4 inches. Front Side windows: Must allow more than 43% of light in. Back Side windows: Any darkness can be used. Rear Window: Any darkness can be used.
Front Side windows: No mirrored or metallic appearance.
Back Side windows: No mirrored or metallic appearance.
Side Mirrors: Dual side mirrors are required if any window behind driver is tinted.
Restricted Colors: Utah doesn't restrict any tint colors.

 

I like the idea of window tint but for me it's black/grey or nothing. Here in Sweden though it is illegal to tint front side windows and windshield so it would have to be the half tint as seen in post #10.

Overall in that case just isn't worth it for me.

Also definitely think it looks a lot better on sport models without chrome window surround and with some darkened tail lights etc. As on that s-type R in post #9.

When I was in Utah, my Crown Vic slick was silver, with "full-legal" tint on the windows of the front doors and "limo tint" on the rear doors and back window. The mix looked pretty good, and made it possible for someone to get into a car 5 feet away without noticing someone in the back seat of mine. The dark tint on the back also helped mask the black antennas on the rear deck, which I doubt will be a factor in your decision.

The reason for the laws in the various states about not having the windows ahead of the B-pillar dark is because of safety while night driving. And, yes, cops will often have a photometer for checking this, thanks to the lawyers. The tint shops know what is legal, and the good ones won't go darker except on a show car. One guy told me "He brings in his '57 Chevy on a trailer, waxed about an inch deep and with Classic Car plates, I'll make it as dark as he likes. He drives in his '97 Chevy daily driver, he gets the legal standard and no more."
