Default x type fan

Hi I have an x type 2.5 2002

Recently my engine management light has come on and I have noticed the fan now has gone in to some sort of safe mode as it comes on way more then it used too. The temperature gauge is always in the middle and the car never over heats so I'm confused on which component is causing the problem.
Plus the car will only blow out hot air when the foot is on the accelerator other wise when sat idol at lights blows out cold.

Any suggestions?

kp salted, did you recently have any freon added to the car because of a poor cooling? If you have, it is very possible that what you have happening is the freon system is reaching too high of pressures and the system is shutting down to prevent blowing out a pipe. As the motor RPM comes up, the pressures inside the system rise and if they get too high, the system protects itself (ie, compressor doesn't pump and no freon is doing the cooling).

If this is not the case, then I am a little confused as to what is going on. If anything, you should be getting more cooling as you are driving down the road.

I am saying when I want to warm the car up in the morning even with the temperature turn up high the air will still come out cold when the car is stood still even when it has been running for a while but as soon as I put my foot on the accelerator warm air will come through

Is the secondary fan turning on when your ac is on? Meaning are both fans running when yourac is on?

Sounds like a heater core problem. My impala did the same thing. At stop and go traffic in the winter, it was areal problem. Replaced heater core and problem is fixed.
