Default X-Type Radio & Battery Problems

Dear All,

I have looked through the threads but cannot find a solution to my specific problem.

The battery in my 2003 Jaguar X-Type went dead about 2 weeks ago. I replaced it tonight, all systems are working fine except for the radio. The radio will not even turn on or show any codes. I have tried to do all the schemes with pushing the different groups of buttons and nothing has worked. I have even let it sit for 60 minutes and still nothing.

Any suggestions?

You should have a code that is probably in your owners manual. The radio is rendered useless if the power is cut. It is a anti-theft feature. Hopefully you have the card with the code... otherwise, you may be trying to contact Jaguar with your VIN for the code. Hope this helps.

I do not have the code. Checked out the booklet that came with the car, and everything is there EXCEPT the credit card with the code. I was just curious if I even had the code, how do I enter it? Since there is no prompt currently on the radio to enter anything.

You are supposed to see "code" on the display, then use the numbers on the radio and type in the sequence. It also says on my information that you may be charged for removal of the radio to get the radio chassis #.

Do you have the little plastic bag that the card was in? It has both the serial number and code under the bar codes.

You will be in a small and unlucky minority if you have a coded radio in a US spec Jaguar. I used to think these were only coded in the UK but a few US members in other sections report having having coded radios .

With coded radios, they switch on but then display CODE. If yours is not even powering up, it could simply be a fuse gone.

I was going to say...I have US Spec, have had the battery out for whole day for repairs, no code required.

No prompt or anything on the stereo.... Does the stereo still illuminate?

As far as I know I have a US Spec.

There is no illumination on the radio, pressing any combination of buttons does not do anything. I checked the fuses and they seemed fine, but I will recheck them.

I am seriously debating just putting an aftermarket stereo in. I have always wanted to do it (for a built in GPS) and I guess now I have an excuse!

Regardless if this is an easy fix I would like to do it, just for peace of mind.
