My XF has just been in for a service, I asked for the Android Auto update but for some reason it is not available after they carried out an update. Is there a way that I can check what version of the system is installed and if my vehicle can have the Android Auto update? I have a USB port, and I think I have a Touch Pro infotainment system.
For the dealer to enable the Smartphone Pack for Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, there are three criteria;
Must have InControl Touch Pro (not InControl Touch)
Must have 10.2" widescreen (not 8" standard screen)
Must have a SIM or HDMI socket in the panel (not just the two USB's)
If you don't have all three things, they cannot do it for you.
I drive an X260 MY2017. Topix says I have a Branded Sound System L3, a full TFT/LCD intrument cluster, and the NGI Head Unit High.
To me this sounds like I meet the first two requirements.
However, the UIP is Low-Line, and according to my dealer that is the reason why I cannot have the smartphone pack enabled.
Does anyone know if I can upgrade the UIP to High-Line without needing to upgrade the head unit?
Marc, as soon as I have a better understanding of what is needed and what the costs will be I can guestimate if the costs are realistic.
If they are acceptable, pretty much depends on what you are looking for. This car is also my daily driver, and having online traffic info, improved smartphone integration and Apple CarPlay is added value to me. My dealer gave me a rough quote of about €1K, but looking for more info before I make a decision on this.
Are you considering this upgrade too?
Yes, absolutely sure. If someone can arrange this for me for €1K he/she can start tomorrow. For exactly the same reasons that you give. Realtime traffic information is also for me a very great added value. So please keep me informed if you have more information.
I've (hopefully) attached a file that I found a while ago called "project sunrise". This is a document from Jaguar relating to the updates to the infotainment system. Reading through it, on the older software, they were, and can update the system but, they put a stop on it!. It looks like this is because it was taking too long to do in the workshop and not cost effective. I've contacted Jaguar about this, and as of last Nov (the last time I contacted them) they had not resolved the issue.
I think you could do it all yourself but with the risk of bricking your car.
I do have all the necessary hardware in my 2017 XF to get it updated to carplay/android auto. Since the dealer won't do it anymore (for free), I'd like to do it myself. SDD is up and running, but I don't seem to find the right entry to change. Anybody willing to point me to it ?
I have a 2018 XE with a 10.25 InControl Touch pro but without CarPlay. At last I found a dealer (Jaguar at Sheffield) who would install the Smartphone pack for me at £150 which I thought was reasonable.
However, he warned me that they had recently installed the pack in a car of similar spec to mine and it had fried the unit in the car. Cost to replace about £2000.
They would install for me if I accepted the risk but asked me to consider what benefit CarPlay would give me considering the possible implications.
I decided not to proceed and purchased a separate CarPlay unit instead at less than £100.
I have one of this crowds kits. https://www.navinc.nl/5-navigation-systems. Both IPhones and Android work like a charm. Bit of a bugger to set up though, but they were very helpful and got it going fine.
quick search reveals that unit at less than $1K AUD from Aliexpress. So $1500 for install.
Several videos on youtube.
What do you think? Is this reasonable?
