I'm ready to part with my '05 S-Type R which has been a pleasure to drive. Considering a 2014-15 XF Portfolio or Sport 3.0 but intrigued by 2016 improvements (interior aesthetics aside) and debating which I'd be happiest with?? There' s the old "never buy the first year of any new model" ...so someone calm my fears of the 2016 XF. Done a lot of DYI on my S Type to keep it happy but looking for later model, lower mileage reliability. Thanks to corona issues, I anticipate used prices to drop a bit in coming months. Bad news on selling my beloved R but hopefully deals to be found on XF's. Any thoughts on Carvana? Pricing seems to be fairly reasonable and considerably more competitive than CARMAX. Rather not buy from a used car lot unless thoroughly checked out by Jaguar dealer and same for individual purchase. Do plan to run my own OBD scan in any case. Thoughts please!

Your text seems to imply you would only buy from a Jaguar dealer, (main agent), in which case you can be more confident, as you should get a good warranty with the later car. The later car body shell is aluminium, not steel like the previous model even though the two models look so similar. The later car is completely different in most respects, as the body, interior, transmission, and suspension are all new. I don't think the V8 was carried over, but the V6 was. The 2-litre Ingenium engine is new. The transmission is an 8-speed ZF so the same company as before. The suspension is the same as my XE. The old suspension was essentially the same as your S-type, so susceptible to early wear of bushes, which you may have some experience of. Best to have a look through the forum for the current XF to see what people are complaining about, but I don't think there is anything of real significance.
Would you consider an XF S SportBrake ? They are getting pretty rare since were really only sold in the US in 2018 and not much demand so not many 2019's or 2020's. There are some great deals on 2018 low-mileage Certified, around the $40K mark now, about 1/2 what MSRP was new. Options varied greatly in these, msrp was anywhere from $72K all the way to $87K, this page has a good list of the options packages here All of them in the US are the S model and AWD.
CPO Ex. 2018 CPO SportBrake
I'm also on the FaceBook Jag XF N. America group and someone posted on there last weekend they picked up this 2018 Sportbrake w/ 26K mi. CPO thru Dallas Park Place Jag dealer for $38K. That's what it listed for, I think he got it for less

The later model X250, at least from 2013 to 2015, came with the 8 speed ZF auto and the AJ126 SC 3.0 V6 as well. You couldn't get the NA V8 in it as that was replaced by the V6 SC but you could still get the V8 SC (eg XFR). If you want the NA V8 in an XF you have to go back to the earlier version 2008 to 2011. No V8 of any type in the X260.
IMHO a late model - 2015 - XFR or XFR-S is the sweet spot in the XF range and you should be able to get a well looked after XFR for the same or less than an X260.
i was in the the same boat .For me the 2015 was more appealing ,Interior was more classy
Quite a difference between the 2015 XF Interior vs the 2018 XF. I like both, I would agree, the 2015 does look more classy. I know a lot of people don't like the 'Carbon Fiber' Interior look
5 year warranty in the US so you can still get one with some time remaining. You need to drive both to tell the difference. The liberal use of aluminum throughout the X260 makes for a nimble ride considering it's a 4 door.
Dont know much about Carvana, but Carmax cars are usually old rental cars and crappy trade in cars. I would not trust anything coming from a Carmax. I personally like the X260 interior. I agree with getting a Sportbrake. If I didnt need a truck , i would buy a Sportbrake in a second.

You can find good vehicles at CarMax, just have to do some research. I found my 2014 LX570 at CarMax, 1-owner, perfect service history at Lexus San Diego, no accidents on CarFax, had a PPI done of course and checked out flawlessly, have had 0 issues with it in the 3 years I've owned it. And CarMax sent it to CO free at that time, not sure if they are still doing that. Coming from San Diego had no rust.

I looked at a 2015 and a 2016 xf and eventually decided on the 2016. I found it on Carfax as they also include complete Carfax for every car so you can look at service records etc. I personally would never buy a 4 cylinder jag as I don't think that that's enough power for the size vehicle but to each their own. I love my 2016 and am glad I went with it over the 2015. I paid 19k with 47k miles. You can find them around that or at 30k miles for around 25-30k depends on how much you want to spend

Nice! Would love to see a pic of your new JAG, I just purchased 2016 X260 as well and I love it.
I put nexgen on it and while I was a little disappointed as far as the shine I was extremely impressed with the rain coverage. Usually when it rains it leaves a lot of residue but it went through a downpour for about 30 minutes while at work and when I came out it looked like it had just been washed. Not a spot on it. While it's not like they advertise I would use just for the rain repellant
Appreciate all the feedback on 250 vs 260 purchasing decision. I've decided to go with a 2016 for warranty purposes and the more advanced technology. Granted, previous generation interior was more opulent. Taking delivery tomorrow (6-10-20) on a Prestige with Winter, Vision, Comfort, and Technology packages...absolutely loaded and only 24k+ miles. Fresh rubber and a complete checkup by local Jag dealer with all systems working perfectly. Dealership says it only needs wiper blades and fresh air filter. Even includes fresh dealer oil change with paid up maintenance agreement. Can't wait to get my hands on what will be the nicest car I've ever owned next to my E type.
Not content to leave well enough alone, I plan to refinish the front and repair calipers in red with silver Jaguar logo. Car has some very minor paint scratches so looks like a call to Dr. Color Chip for one of their excellent touch-up kits. Used their kit on my S Type R (which I just found new home for) with excellent results. Unless it's a very deep scratch, their kit works wonderfully.
Looks as though I'll have many hours of studying the owner's manual to absorb all the technology it offers. Happy Happy!! Now to finish my E type and get her back on the road after MANY years of restoration. Stunning blue metallic Spotless, tech loaded interior

Very nice looking car. I don't know if I could do the white interior though lol I'm a little messy. I'm getting ceramic tint put on mine. Here in the hot Texas weather im hoping it will keep it a lot cooler. I know you're going to love yours. It's a beautiful car and a head Turner plus you don't see another one every other block
