Default 2013 XF 8HP70 Transmission Temperature

Hi all,
Maybe someone can help here, please?
I've bought the ZF kit to service the transmission and a bluetooth OBDII, but the transmission temperature doesn't read.
I'm using Torque app. It should work, right?

I really don't want to start this without being able to read the temperature, otherwise I have to guess when it's between 30 and 50 degrees, to add more fluid.

Thanks

We'll, I've done the transmission filter/pan and fluid.
I'm scared that I may have over/under filled the transmission, but what the heck, let's see if it runs ok.
Not being able to read the transmission temperature with the Bluetooth OBD is sh*t.

Use an infrared thermometer.

Yes add the special Jaguar PIDS to Torque Pro. Gets you 8 added PIDS one of them is transmission temperature. The dropbox link for the .cvs file is still good to. So even easier to install.
See attached instructions.

This is excellent clubairth1.

Haven't tried it yet, but was able to add the .csv file. Not the way you explained because I couldn't find the ".torque/extendedpids" folder, but by searching for "torque" in the "Android" folder, I found this:

Android\data\org.prowl.torque\files\extendedpids

That will probably work, right? I'll try it later today.

Thanks for your help, even though the job is done, Ill keep an eye out for the temperature as I drive to see of its alright.

Just so I know what to look for in terms of normal operating temperatures while I'm driving, do you know what the normal/average temp is for the transmission/gearbox?

Yes if placed in the extendedpids folder it "should" work. Several people have reported this folder can be in several different spots but it will work if placed in that folder.

The transmission temperature varies a good bit and of course is influenced by what temperature your operating the car in. I don't monitor it except when doing a trans service and then I am only concerned about getting it between 30C (86F) and 50C (122F). I have read that temperatures over 220F will shorten the fluid and/or transmission life. I live in a very hot area and have had no problems with transmission temperatures. Of course my car is only at 52K miles too.

You really need to check the fluid level. It is critical and if wrong can and will lead to transmission failure. I don't think monitoring the transmission oil temperature while driving will tell you if it's filled correctly. Attached is the fluid level check procedure from Jaguar. Note they do not say anywhere at what mileage you should change fluids and they do publish the lifetime fluid stuff in other places which has pretty well been discredited unless you are selling new Jaguars! ZF has a drain interval of 80K km to 120K km or eight years. See the attached ZF document and compare it to the Jaguar procedure.

Yeah, that's exactly it.
I followed these instructions to the T and all is fine. Car runs great, can't say I can feel the difference but just knowing the oil and filter are changed, makes me feel more confident and safe.
I will be propping it up again in about a week's time just to make sure there are no leaks.

The only thing I noticed is that I only used about 5.5 litres

The .CSV file did install in Torque Pro, but now I'm having issues with my ELM 327 (bluetooth won't connect for some reason, but it has in the past, maybe just a glitch).

Thanks for all the info and your help with the dropbox file.

I've done the Diff oil as well and next is the Supercharger oil, but the only write-ups I can find are for the XK.

It's going to be a hassle to get at the fill plug without taking the supercharger out.

I have seen one guy who could change the SC oil WITHOUT removing the SC but I would not even try. Just no room to work. I think the THEROCK88 did a great write up on how to change the super charger oil too. Therock88 did it without removal of the SC BUT he first removed all the Symposer stuff to gain additional working room. But again I think you will get more of the old oil out if the SC is removed.
Take a look;
SC Oil Change

Here is another one and it gets into the snout replacement which is a VERY common problem and you will most likely need to replace the SC coupler.

How many miles are on your car? @DeviLSh sent the fluid on his car in for analysis to Blackstone and it was within spec, though his car had low mileage. I did mine and it was a little dirty but not all that bad. I would wait until you need to take the charger off.

Thanks, but I was lucky. The drain/fill plug on the AJ126 is up top at the back of the SC.

Here's what I did.
