Default 5.0 XF Supercharged vs XFR

In terms of every day driving applications, is there really that much difference in power delivery between the SC and the XFR? Many say they are almost identical in every day situations, and its only when you track or push the cars past 100mph that a difference can be noticed.

I didn't think so on the ones I drove before buying my 15 5.0.

there's a 40hp difference between the 2, not sure how much torque difference, but i cant imagine its a lot. so in the grand scheme of things, as everyone says, they're almost identical. i think even the suspension and brakes might be the same?

seats, wheels, front bumper are different

I drove new 2012 models back to back and couldn't tell then apart. The Supercharged I drove had all the XFR options except the electric rear blind so from the inside you couldn't tell the difference.

Having driven both in stock form, unless you had been driving an XFR for some time, you can't tell the difference in normal driving. But why would you be worried about it if you were going to drive it normally all the time? The base models have more than enough power for "normal" driving.

I don't always drive normally, so that's why I have a tuned and pullied XFR!

A tuned XF supercharged with the 5.0 liter V8 will yield the same power or more than a stock XFR. Since the SC models are generally a bit cheaper than the XFR, i am finding no reason to spend the extra to get an XFR. Will keep my SC. Thanks for the reply.

Suspension is different from my understanding. The XFR has an adaptive system (modern version of cats) where the super or at least in 15 didn't have it which allows for more options when it comes time to replace or upgrade.

For power, I would agree that there is no reason to upgrade. But if your SC doesn't have the portfolio interior, you're missing much of the reason to have a Jag.

Unless they did something in the later cars or in different markets, the SC is a slightly detuned XFR without the body and seat upgrades. The SC had identical suspension.

I think the real upgrade would be the XFR-S, now for that vehicle I would justify spending the extra thousands. They are much harder to find, almost impossible in my neck of the woods (Oklahoma). I have only seen 1 in person.

If money were no object i would go for the F- type SVR, or the XE Project 8. I dont have 200 grand lying around though.

Yes the sweet spot for performance .vs. cost is the SC. Same thing with used .vs. new. I purchase used.
I got an XJR for the added features but it's a diminishing returns sort of thing. As are ALL expensive items.
Just a fact of life.

Just to clarify the XF 5.0 SC and the XFR are mechanically identical. Same engine, supercharger, suspension, transmission etc. The tune is slightly different which yields a 40hp performance differential - as others have said that's pretty hard to notice. If you are looking to do tune (or pulley and tune) to give it more power then you will end up with identical performance specs after that whichever one you start with

So really question is whether the extra money is worth it for the badge, and the cosmetics (seats, front bumper, bonnet / hood vents. Both are typically very highly specced

Personally I'd look for whichever you can find that has been well looked after and do the tune if you really do want more power

Thank you very much for confirming it. I believed they were mechanically identical, although many deny it. I have the 2010 XF Supercharged.

Same here. Also a 2010 XF SC
Had it 5+ years and it has been excellent. Never let me down. Driven year round - sun and snow

Mina exhaust? It's great
Wheels v easy to bend - but some good aftermarket options too
