Car won't lock?
Hi folks, I've had my XF Premium (N/A) for a couple weeks now and I've noticed in the past week that I can't seem to lock the doors. If I use the door handle it beeps twice at me like a door is open or something, but I get no open indicators from the dash. If i attempt to use the key fob nothing at all happens, no beeps at all. Even trying to turn on the lights with the fob doesn't work, however the car will recognize the fob when starting or when I'm opening the trunk, or the doors if I've manually locked them, which leads me to believe the fob batteries are ok. I tried both fobs with the same results. Any ideas what to look for next? Could both key fob batteries be coincidentally dying at the same time? Thanks in advance!
Try holding the key further away from the door when you press the button on the door lock the car. The car might think the key is still inside the car when you are trying to lock it.
If that works you might be able to keep the key in the pocket furthest away from the door when locking the car.

You might have a sticking door lock or a door lock actuator is on its way out. Physically push each door lock open and closed (chrome lock piece on the inside of the door). This will fix any sticking lock. If that doesn't cure it, might be a failed actuator.
Also change both batteries to be on the safe side.

Nasa25 you hit the nail on the head. I went around to manually lock each door and the rear drivers side switch just flops back and forth, clearly broken. Now i just have to hope the dealer will cover it's repair under their 2 month warranty, otherwise my next question will be on removing door panels! Thanks again!

No luck on the warranty front, so I decided to take a look for myself. Using instructions found on this site i popped the door off and sure enough, the locking mechanism popped off. I put it back where it belonged and everything is right as rain, and for free!
Awesome! Good on you for doing the DIY fix.

BTW - You'll get a specific message on the message center if the smart key battery needs replacement. I had one key that was almost never used. I went to use it and got the message. Replaced both batteries in a few minutes.
I have done a search but I am new to this forum so not sure, please could I ask where you saw a guide on the forum to removing the door cards ?
Kind regards.
Scrotal.

I hate to resurrect this thread, but what happens when you've replaced 3 of the 4 door lock actuators and the car still won't lock? I try the keyfob or the black button on the door handle and I get a beep, followed by a double beep. Also ,the buttons on the dash won't lock/unlock the car. I can hear the gas door unlock tho. I highly doubt it's the last door lock actuator. And FWIW, I had a mechanic with the OBD interface tell me it was the actuators, otherwise I wouldn't have wasted my time/money on changing those. Is there anything else I should be looking at?
Hood, trunk and even gas cap have sensors and/or actuators that may not show a code for a physical fault but will prevent all the doors from locking. Just the manufacturer prioritizing revenue from dealer visit to figure it out, above your ability to secure your vehicle.
I experienced the same problem with my 2010 XF. Attached is a link on what I did to identify and correct the problem.

Those ALL set codes. That's the problem with trying to fix your car by throwing parts at it. All the door actuators set codes. It's the only way to properly fix the car.
Get it hooked up to SDD and find out what the car is telling you. But first do follow Gus's excellent suggestion and lubricate all the latches to see if it's something simple.
No need to go to a dealer.
