Default engine light

My engine light has come on twice now - first time I thought it was a loose gas cap. I undid it and did it and the light went away after 3 drives. Now it has come back.I know there is a common issue with filling the gas tank on xfs (I have it - it is maddening but I can live with it) - could this be part of the problem?

Why guess - just read the codes!

Even a $5 or so elm327 ought to work or free at some places.

Tell them you have a check engine light that needs fixing under your warranty.

Mechanics don't really like you to do your own diagnostics and then tell them how to do their job.

and the saga continues - so the light goes off the day before my appointment - I tell them anyways not siting codes just saying it came on and I wanted them to check. I get it back and they don't say anything other than looks good. Today- guess what - the engine light comes on again. So once I get home I will check it - again - and this time I will include the codes when I get there.

They could have read the codes even with the light off unless you had cleared them. If you didn't - complain.
