I am not a frequent user of this forum because i can hardly find the threats i am interested in
I find it difficult to use the threat for instance if i choose the "XF and XFR forum" and i search for instance for Replace battery i get all kind of threads from other cars and other questions but nothing related to my question. Also finding my own post from yesterday is a hell of a job.
I posted a threat yesterday about " replacement of battery XF 2011 (250) " and i could not find any threat about this subject on the forum!
Later i used google for answers about this subject and google supplied me with numerous answers originating from the jaguar forum and giving me a link to thesw posts
I can not believe that i have to use google to search for an appropiate post or thread on this forum.
Please can anyone tell me where to find the user manual for this forum or send me a link with info how to search and use the jaguar forum.

While you can use the Forum search, I have always found it more useful to ask my question in Google and add "Jaguar Forums" at the end. Remember google's sole purpose in life is as a search engine. It does that very well. Plus you also get other links from other sources that may be useful as well.
When you search this forum, wrap it in quotations. Searching for replacement battery will send you every thread with the words replacement and battery in it. Searching for "Replacement Battery" will send you only the threads with those two words together. The google suggestion also works too.
One way to narrow down search is to select the 'Advanced' tab from the upper right corner in the forum and then select the correct sub forum that matches your car.
As mentioned before you can sharpen your search by grouping words with " to reduce noise.
However the fine art of searching is to put yourself into a potential thread starter's shoes and to think about how he could phrase out a certain problem or what words could be used to describe a certain detail.
Not easy, not everyone is native in English, let alone the differences between UK and US English.
I fail on that myself more often than I'd like.
Cheers
Chris
Thanks but do i always have to ask you for a link? The links works but i like to know that my post is given number -250-a-241074 and where i can find this before closing my session

Three ways to find your own posts, 1) in the Advanced Search you can enter your own user name as a search parameter, 2) under User CP in the menu at the upper left, it will show you your "subscribed threads" (but if there are a lot, you may need to click on the view all link at the bottom of the list) and 3) click on your user name where it says "Welcome" in the upper right, it opens your account and under the statistics tab, there are options to find all posts by jwballes or find all threads started by jwballes.
But yes, finding just the right thread in a forum is often difficult. I get frustrated a lot, with google too. You're kind of at the mercy of the people posting to put some thought into how they title their own threads. You're lucky this forum is very tolerant and helpful. I'm on some other automotive forums where they get very terse with any new user who posts a repeat question that's already been answered.
