Looking at a 2010 XFR/ bad idea for winter driving?
Hello,
i am new member and have have been lurking in the background reading up the XFR known issues and information.
My brother in law is offering me his 2010 XFR 75K (KM) for about $22K cdn he is the second owner. He has never driven it in the winter and has owned it for 4 years. Always dealer maintained, the supercharger was replaced about 1500KMs ago before the warranty ended. Not sure about the water pump or Ediff items. I know he has had issues with the check engine light due to the gas cap?
anything else I should look out for? This would be used as daily driver. 80KM a day for work and errands mostly on the highway with traffic sometimes. As well I live in Canada so we do have some wonderful weather -20c and lots of snow. With winter tires is this a bad idea? The wife would be taking my SUV.
Thanks in advance

i just experiencing my first winter with my XFR. so far we've had 1 bad snowfall.
it wasnt horrible, but it wasnt the best. Im on all-seasons. i reckon with winter tires you'll do better. but the car has so much torque, it loves to spin the tires. especially when u turn corners
its not the best car to have in the snow. should you daily drive it? maybe not. once in a while is ok, just be REALLY slow

I have owned many RWD drive cars but nothing near 510HP. Yes it would be equipped with winters.
Mine is a 2010 XF supercharged V8. I'm in north east of USA. I have winter tyres and have found it's great in cold weather and fine in snow. The snow tyres plus winter mode (which subdues the throttle a bit) seem to have plenty of grip. Mine is a daily driver all through the winter with no issues. Definitely some rear slip on occasion as it's rwd so not much weight over the wheels. But it's fine
Reliability has been great. Water pump changed but that's about it. Check the vin for the diff issue (search the forum / there is a range of affected diffs) and my 2010 is outside the range of ones with issues

no major issues, just changed the battery last week as it was on its original. one window gets stuck. the drivers door lock was sticking and the car wouldnt lock (fixed with some WD40).
i think i have a bad control arm (or something with the suspension), car wobbles a bit at low speeds.
I have a bent rim (these 20's are notorious for being soft).
I have a grinding sound coming from my diff (mechanic says its not big deal).
thats all the issues i can think of

Got a new dealer (benefit of being in So Cal) and and it was fixed under warranty. But any noise from the diff is VERY BAD news. For reference, new diff makes no noises at all.
Grinding sound when turning slowly? If so, your diff is not long for this world. Mine did that for a short period of time after I bought it before the warning light came on and said it had a severe diff problem. And the dealer I bought it from said there wasn't anything wrong when I asked them about it.

You need winter tires for a cold/snow climate. There is way too much hp/tq in the SC/XFR so the tires just spin and the car won't move. I drive a beater car for winter because the Jag is useless in Minnesota winters. Also, 20" winter tires are $2k for a set so...
