So I do alot of city driving in 85F + degree heat with my 5.ol XF. It seems that whenever I first get in to the car, the air conditioning does not work for a few minutes until the car gets going. Also in stop and go traffic at red lights, the air con switches off and goes warm until I get moving again. Is this normal? Can I over ride this so it stays on all the time especially when I am stopped at a light?
Thanks for the quick response. I do not have a local Jag dealer in my area. But I have done pretty well over the years doing repairs and sorting issues out. I am going to look in to the cooling issue as well. Perhaps it may have something to do with a faulty sensor which I have yet to track.
Where the heck do you live that you are mentioning 85 degrees in December?
Check out post #1, he lives in Guam (in the Pacific ocean about 1,500 miles north of New Guinea and about 1,000 miles north of the equator).
In Adelaide South Australia where I live we have had a very mild December so far, but the forecast for later this week is for 40 degrees centigrade plus (104 Fahrenheit). Last summer it got to 46 C (115 F) here in Adelaide a couple of times.
85 F is considered to be vaguely warm in Adelaide.
Yep, you have got it right...Guam USA which is an unincorporated territory in the Pacific Ocean near Asia. We are a major strategic base for US Forces. We have all the major comforts that most US states enjoy but this is where summer is forever!
When you first get in and start the car in hot weather the A/C system should go into recirculate to provide maximum cooling.
Then as the temperature starts to come down the car should switch from recirculate to regular A/C which would start to bring in additional fresh hot air from the outside.
Do you know where the recirculate indicator is so you can see if it's coming on?

Veteran of Anderson AFB right here! I hear the snakes ate all the birds? I just found out my AC is out too, compressor is running but no cold air?
Apparently our XF cars are smarter than we think. I had an issue where my cooling fan was not activating properly. After replacing the fan motor assembly, the air con system returned to normal. I am thinking that the computer module on the fan housing communicates with the ECM and tells it when the fan is running. If your fan is not running and there is no proper air flow, it cuts off your air con to prevent from overheating. If you are moving, there is little need for a fan, so the system works properly. But when you are stopped, the system will indicate a problem which will shut down the air con temporarily.

It's nice to know that you were assigned to AAFB. That base is pretty nice with improvements happening every day.
If your air con is not getting cold but the compressor and fan motor are running, then more than likely you could have one of two problems. One which is a low freon issue (which is highly unlikely) or that your thermostat is not functioning properly. Sometimes your air con will malfunction and it will allow for the heater and air con to work simultaneously. This will result in warm air in the cabin. If your freon is low, there is a sensor that will trigger and shut down the compressor so it will not be damaged.
