Removing Grille on 2011 XF
How difficult is this?
I'm leaning towards painting the inside of it black, yet leaving the outer border and Jag logo chrome.. Thoughts?
I have a black 2011 XF for reference..
Thanks!

I believe there may be a "how to" with pictures on the forum if you search. Front bumper needs removal. I have an all black Sf SC and had the grill changed to black. I like that look.
I was just going to use a Spray paint as I have done in the past and it worked very well.. but I took the grille off to paint... If I cover up car/trim etc. do you think I could just spray while on car?

Will spray paint chip easily? I expect the existing grill will need some prep. Not sure about about painting in place. Careful cover of exposed parts and must be careful to not make drips.

Chipping was never an issue previously. The drip is what I'm scared of. Idk if I just do slow even sprays and not too much at a time I feel like I'd be ok.

It isn't horrible but it's more of a pain then you'd expect for a front grill.
Quick how to:
-Jack the front of the car up and place on jack stands
-Remove lower bumper cover / splash shield (bolts along the bottom)
-Remove bumper (top bolts, loosen/remove bumper/bracket bolts in wheel well area)
-Remove grill from bumper

Sorry it has been a while and I don't remember all the bolt locations. It isn't hard to stumble through. I don't think the lights had to be removed. You'll want to support the bumper so you can pull it away enough to get at the washer line for the head light sprayers and the bumper sensor connectors.
I guess it's possible to leave the splash shield attached to the bumper when you remove it so that's another option if you want to save time.

For best quality always go with light coats. Wait 15 minutes and respray again. Just keep the can about a foot away and mist. That's all you need, light misting.
Thanks. Doing this on my Audis there were hidden bolts that I would have never found on those cars. Easily my least favorite project - a pain and no real satisfaction factor once done.
The only hidden bolts I've noticed on the car so far are on the headlights. One bolt for each headlight is accessed through a small hole in the wheel wells (10mm socket). I don't think the headlights had to be pulled to get the bumper off. It isn't hard to get them out though.
