Default Subtle clunk noise as XF hits 16 kmh

Does anyone know the source of an audible clunk noise which occurs the first time the car exceeds 16 kmh / 10 mph after starting the engine?

Thanks,

Bob

I guess that could have been a possibility for some, however my doors are set to lock at 32 kmh. Made me smile, though. Reminds me of being a computer technician and having to start the support call with the question, "Is your computer plugged into the power?" :-)

This is a much quieter sound which seems to come from the engine or transmission areas.

Funny it is only once every trip, not each time the car accelerates to this speed. I noticed the parking assist screen shuts off at the same time (after backing out of a space) and wondered if there was some sort of mechanical interlock that was letting go. Have you had yours checked out by a mechanic (or are you not concerned)?

yes only once after car start drive. and sometimes its less noticeable if car warm up. I;m pretty sure its torque converter and or gearbox. I have changed both converter and gearbox and car does the same. which engine do you have 4.2SC or 5 NA?

Okay, good to know someone else has heard it. I'll not make a special trip to the mechanic for it but will mention it at the fall servicing before I put the car away for the winter.

Mine is V8 5.0 litre, without supercharger.

Thanks,

Bob

It's the ABS system. It does a self check of the system around 5 or 10mph (I forget which) the first time you pull away.
Perfectly normal. And in fact reassuring that it works!
