My '13 XF 3.0 threw a malfunction warning on the way home that the tire pressure sensor wasn't operating properly. At first I thought I may have had a low tire or one with a puncture, but after getting home I checked pressure in all 4 and they were all as expected.

Is it possible for me to reset the sensor myself (BMW had the option to do this in the menu) or do I need to take it to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty? Have to leave early tomorrow for a work trip, so I hope there's nothing I need to be concerned with tonight.

I don't think you are going to have any problems with the car actually functioning properly..the TPMS is just a heads up thing to let you know a tire pressure is out of specs with the rest...It can wait till you get a chance to have it looked at by the dealer.

 

Does anyone have the part numbers for the replacement sensors?

Don't know the part number, but if you can get it to the dealer they will reflash the TPM module if you are still under warranty. Apparently, the old software looses the signal intermittently and then the module cant read the sensors. My sensors were throwing false readings and then I just would get a "TPMS system fault" message that would not go away. It was not fun to drive with the message popping up every time I turned on the he car. Took it in for a reflash and haven't had a problem since.

 

By flaking out, I'm assuming you are getting random TPS messages per se..The Sending/transmitter unit IN the tires are usually the culprit..they have about a 5 year battery life in them and when they get weak (especially when it's cold) they send out or lack of information and the system sees it as a fault...Discount tire will replace them for about $75 to $100 a piece.

I'm at 4 years on the original tires..when I need tires, I'll have it done then..

 

Oddly enough, as I was driving to the airport yesterday the warning light went off and has not come back on since...

 

I've had this problem for nearly two years now. I had the TPMS module reflashed (at my own expense), which did nothing. The dealer tested the sensors and said mine were not OEM (true, I replaced them when I bought new tires) and replaced two of the sensors. A week later, I got the TPMS Fault warning again. I went back to them and they said everything was fine. Of course, by then, the warning was off. Since then (August 2015), I'm still getting the warning every 6 weeks or so, then after about 4-5 engine starts (irrespective of mileage) it goes away. I'm going to visit the tire installer who supplied and installed the non-OEM sensors and have him check out the sensors and see what he finds. That's probably what I should have done right away because these issues started right after he installed the new sensors and tires.


If your car is still under warranty, I would bug the heck out of the dealer until they remedy the whole issue.

 

I have the same issue on my summer tyres which have aftermarket TPMS sensors in the wheels. But when I put the winter tyres on (with Jag OEM TPMS) they work perfectly

Dealer tells me there are compatibility issues with non OEM sensors. They have seen this a lot. Suggest that you get OEM sensors to avoid it!

 

Anyone have a source for the OEM-supplier sensor? The Jaguar part (#CsC41656) has a list price of $102 each. For my wife's Mercedes, I bought sensors from Tire Rack that were made by VDO-Siemens (and sold under the Continental Tire label) which makes the Mercedes label sensors and have had no problems for 4 years.

 

I found someone on eBay selling Jag OEM ones for 65usd for four. I bought them and they look authentic - not yet fitted them. They had a lot of them - search and see if they still have them

 

Pretty sure the OEM ones are VDO-SIEMENS, and the ones I bought from rock auto look identical to the OEM ones except the FOMOCO logo is blacked out.

 

How old are they?..Is the question that comes to mind....the batteries can't be replaced IIRC

 

I was told they are 2015 mfr date although not sure if that's easy to verify

 

Those should be good for at least the next 5 years I would think..

I also found these for $62.00/each brand new and OE.

That sounds like the best deal going and part # C2C41656 is what is shown on the invoice from the Jaguar dealer when they replaced two of my non-OEM sensors.


Fortunately, I took my car to the tire shop that installed the non-OEM sensors and he had two Jaguar OEM sensors and installed them and re-balanced the tires for no charge. Given that it's well over a year since he supplied and installed the sensors, I was quite pleased. I asked him if other Jaguar owners had similar issues and he said he has more problems with Land Rover and Jaguar sensors than any other make.


Now that all 4 of my sensors are Jaguar OEM, let's see if I no longer get TPMS Fault warnings.
