Hello my dear Jaguar friends.
Still going strong with the 2012 XJ 5.0 V8 supercharged, no problems whatsoever.
But I would like to know the partnumber of the gear shift selector (the complete item) of my model.
I know I can find it on the item itself when I take it out, but if I don't have to because somebody here knows the number (there are a lot of different numbers, for diesels and everything, but mine is as prescribed her above), i would prefer to leave it in it's place.
I just want to find one with the buttons still perfectly (cleaned and) painted before I start working on it.
Thanks for responding! And kind regards ofcourse.
In my 2011 XJL the buttons had been "cleaned" but the quality of the cleaning was poor, with some of the labeling rubbed off and the sticky bits still in the unseen areas of the buttons.
I discovered that when I did the work to blacken a lot of the decorative chrome in the console that was blinding me on sunny days.
So I sourced a good one from a 2019. It was about $100 on ebay. I did confirm with my dealer that all model years were compatible.
Fortunately I have yet to use it so pics were easy. Pics below have the numbers you are looking for. The X150 reference is interesting in the 2nd pic.
Looks like that part had many different part numbers over the years. Way more than I would have thought.
Most are superseded by C2D43911 but I see the early part number C2D1991 too.
You can use the last 6 digits of your VIN to narrow it down. Glad to hear the dealer says all 2010-2019 are the same so maybe all these numbers have been simplified.

Ah! Very good! Thanks to all of you!! I just ordered the Wombat suggestion at Ali's.
A complete set for aaaaaall buttons (gear selector, radio control and window buttons) for 38,59 euro's. Looks good!
If it's not gonna look good I'll fall back to the other options, so thanks to all three of you!
It looks like the diesel gear selectors will also work for the gasoline models, no?

Could you do use all a favour, when the parts arrive would you mind relating your opinion on the parts? Porsche, MB, VW, Audi and BMW all had same problem (Bosch anyone?). They must have changed something around 2016 as my wife's 2017 F-Pace and my 2018 575 don't suffer from this issue.
Yes, ofcourse, my pleasure.
Yes, I heard the same about BMW and Mercedes at least.
I read here in the forum somewhere that you should be able to clean the sticky sealing with baby oil or baby towles, but, all of his own, my garageman wanted to do me a favor and they started cleaning it themselves...without asking and without knowing...
And when I came to pick up the car again all the carr smelled thinner... I was not amused, but well, the intention was nice so what do you do? ;-)
Never mind, life goes on.
The package will be send in about 13 days from China to Holland, and I will arrive in Holland again in the beginning of june (still in Mexico now).
So it will be somewhere in june that I can tell you something and put some photo's.
Thanks again!
Harro
The sticky buttons have many threads. What works is the makeup remover pads from Neutrogena. Cleaned everything on my XJR with no damage to the writing. It does take work and it's fiddly. So many buttons as the rear AC panel and all 4 doors also have sticky buttons. Add to that the center console and all the steering wheel buttons and there are a lot of buttons to clean. Don't forget the rear trunk release on the dash too.
