Default How to tell if I have Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS )?

Hey guys,

I have a 2015 Jaguar XJ and I want to do a headlight refresh. The question is how do I know if my car has AFS? I see the lights calibrate when I turn on the car but if I turn the wheel when I'm not moving I can't see it moving. Thoughts?

If your lights move left and right then quickly back to centre when you start the car with the lights on then you have AFS. From memory the AFS won't operate when the vehicle is stationary - you need to be moving to see the lamps move after the initial calibration.

You can also tell by looking at the headlamp assembly itself. If the outer corner section has a lens in it instead of a silver insert with the jaguar leaper then you have AFS. If you see a jaguar leaper instead then you don't.

Not sure but my 2014 XJR does have AFS. I can sit in the garage and turn the steering wheel and see the headlights on the wall move a bit.
So my guess is yes you have AFS. I think it was standard on all XJ's from the introduction in 2009?

if you turn the wheel while not moving, you should see them moving ever so slightly. other than that im not sure if theres a button or a menu option that allows you to enable/disable (which would indicate you have it)

There will be a sticker on the housing. Look for AFS. You’ll also see a yellow headlight with arrows under it on your dash at night if you have Adaptive Lights.
