Default I'm Back :') + questions

Hey guys, long time no see

So I no longer drive as much as I was, and decided to sell my XE to come back to the XJ world. I purchased a 2013 Jaguar XJL Portfolio 3.0 SC with 87,000 miles (Italian Racing Red) with the brown/light beige interior and an impeccable service history. I purchased it from a brand new Jaguar dealership in Chesterfield, MO and their customer service was awesome. It's gorgeous (pictures soon) and holy sh*t did I miss the rush behind the wheel. I feel like I'm back where I belong.

How's everyone been?! I've got a quick question to ask if any of you could help out?

I am scheduling to get my spark plugs, gearbox oil/filter, supercharger belt/fluid (should I do this one?), and then of course, the water pump and the plastic cooling pieces done.

Now onto my question; what are the updated part #'s for the water pump and all plastic cooling pieces I should go ahead and change? Please include any seals and O-Rings necessary to get the job done as well if possible.

Thanks guys, and I look forward to speaking to everyone again soon!

If it were me and I didn't have complete service records indicating that the required maintenance items had been done, including replacing all hoses and plastic pipes as necessary as well as fluids I would have everything you outlined done. You can find part numbers in various threads or you can go to the stickies and download the service manual for your XJ. By the way you can find some aluminum pipes on Ebay for around $200 a set. This set is only for connections to the water pump. Good luck.

Ralph, thanks for the response! I was quoted $8,388 today from my closest Jag dealership. I think this is outrageous as their parts quote was double retail price (quadruple dealer prices). I've done this job on a previous XJ for nearly half the price they want, at the same dealership! I spoke with their service manager right before close today and he agreed this was outrageous and that tomorrow we could work together to get a proper quote. I don't mind spending money on my vehicle to maintain it, but I won't be screwed over in the process! Anyways, I didn't mean to rant too much. Have a great week Ralph!

My pleasure. I agree that quote is ludicrous. Please let us know what happens between you and the Service Manager.

I think you will find owning a used Jaguar a VERY expensive experience unless you can DIY at least part of the work.
It's just one of the trade offs of owning an expensive and fairly rare car.

So the service manager took off all up charges and the invoice now sits at $5,113! I've had the same job done at this dealership before for around the current price as well. Thank god I went and checked the parts pricing online as well as looking at the labor from the last time they did this job (they were going to charge me for double the necessary labor)? Either way goes, I'm happy with how everything turned out!

Airth! Not sure if you remember me from about a year ago. You told me the same thing then too with my last XJL. Same as then, I don't mind paying any necessary expenses. I'm too terrified to get into the engine myself, so I'll definitely continue having the shop do all my work. (Except oil changes and minor things like bulbs). As far as I'm concerned, this is a 300,000 mile vehicle. I've seen plenty of Rover's that are equipped with the same engine's we have in our Jag's that have rolled over 300k! I had a friend with over 200,000 miles on his 13' 3.0SC RR that never had an issue, except of course with all the water pump's we're constantly having to change.

Jordan my guy you are on a long mission arent you? how many cars have you gone through? from the Xj to the mercedes to the tesla to the XE to the Xj. the list keeps going haha! how much miles are you putting in on these bad boys before you trade them?! seriously lol. And then not only do you trade them but you upgrade some stuff while you have it just to trade it?!? this is mind boggling to me. if I knew I was gonna trade in my car for another, why would I invest my own money into the car just to trade it in when I could just invest the money upgrades into the new one? Ive heard/seen many others do the opposite of what you do, usually when their car is becoming junk they trade it in and thats that, they dont invest money into the broken car instead they send it off to the next chump who buys it and runs into the problems, you my friend are a GREAT man that I wish I could've boughten any of the cars you just threw away for another lol.
Edit: damn I didnt even see your signature, itll be never ending. When people refer to "Infiniti and beyond" your jaguar signature will pop up lol!!!

Haha! The amount of times I've been asked these same questions lol. To start off, I used to drive about 1,000 miles weekly with my old job so I was constantly switching cars every 3-6 months. I'd also find the cheapest one in the entire country with all the specs I want, and would then fly to it or have it shipped then fix it up for USUALLY less than it'd cost to find the spec's I want on a car that's in perfect condition. Honestly, I'd still say this was dumb on my part and a total waste of time and money. I'd usually come even or end up losing a couple grand at time of sale. HOWEVER, after owning literally ever car I've ever wanted, I was able to find the car that I love the most. Of course, it's the XJL Portfolio. At least I can proudly say that whoever purchased any of my previous car's after me got a car that was ready to go and issue free! I do plan to keep this XJ to 200,000 miles. I've seen too many Rover's with our engines achieve this, so why haven't we yet?! I don't drive as much anymore now, only about 20,000 miles yearly.

I believe its possible! ive seen someone with 186k on the dash and claimed it was still running fairly well, especially if you're treating your baby with the attention thats needed. For my sake I hope its possible lol I dont have new jaguar money sitting around as much as Id love too lol originally bought mine with 62k on the dash now at 72k miles and highly agree with you id have to try out so many cars I wouldnt be sure what is my sweet spot for a car I know I love my jag but it would be nice to try one of those new Camaro 2ss 1le, mustang gt, bmw m5, corvette, those new Cadillac's Blackwings, but what discourages me most is the comfort and beautifulness the Jaguar has from the blistering seats to the damn door and the dash, man im a sucker for leather especially that smell when you walk into your jag ( I stay away from those tree odors or any odors really because that leather smell is un-beatable), sure as hell wanna try out an F-type, Xk or an F-paceSvr as well. As for a project car id like to get one of those S types r but really rare here in America, also dont even know how to work on cars myself but I feel like buying something cheap like that would be a great way of finding out how to work on a car.

I believe it! They're meant to be driven, not dying in a garage! I personally hate american cars but I do love those new vette's. I'd love to have an F-Type as a weekend cruiser, I drove one and it was an amazing experience. I don't think I'll be able to go without the comfort and beauty of the XJ when it comes to daily driving though. Look up new leather car inserts from Wafer on amazon, they keep that new smell in your car forever!
