Looking to buy a nice diagnostic scanner tool, that also allows me to enter various maintenance modes as well as reading codes. Something better than my current OBD dongle paired with the Torque app on my phone.

I'm considering the following products, and looking for comments/reviews based on your experience. OR, can you recommend another quality product that works well with our cars?

Try to get one that lets you reset the service light. As you know the XJ does not have any back door for this.
I am still working with Torque Pro for now.

I think all of those you listed do that. So that's probably worth $100 right there!

I have been using an iCarsoft i930 for a few years now, on my 2010 XFS then 2010 XFR and now 2014 F-Type, and it has performed flawlessly.
But it doesn't do some of the maintenance and reset functions such as EPB, service indicator and so on.
So a few days ago I bought the later version, an iCarsoft LR V2.0 and I'm just waiting for it to be delivered.
It is advertised as able to do a wide range of maintenance and reset functions so it should do what you want on your XJR.

Being in the same boat I am also looking for a scanner for my "14" F-Type. My studies so far have indicated the updated iCarsoft LR V2.0, the Foxwell NT520 Pro-Jaguar program specific, and one of the Launch brand models. Some reviews said
the NT520 could do some programming of the engine components not capable of the ICarsoft. Looking as well on here for somebody who can review and compare these as well as other models specific to our cars.
Is it better to have a scanner that will work with numerous brand name vehicles or a brand specific one that covers a more comprehensive if not complete list of models made by the same manufacturer?

 

I've had the iCarSoft II for several years now. Works very well. Full reading of all the Jag / LR specific codes. Does service reset. Parking brake adjustment and some other features I've never needed

Used on 2010 XF SC and Land Rover LR4 extensively. They will tel you which models and years it supports

Can anyone confirm these diagnostic tools work for the later XJ's? Since they switched from SDD to Pathfinder in later model years, I haven't been able to find anyone confirming these will work on a 2019 for functions like resetting oil change light, brake bleeding, parking brake, etc.

I am not against going for the full Pathfinder setup and paying 4 figures for one, if needed, but I am fully confused on the best way to get one.

 

lotisespritse, it is my understanding that the programming of the car has not necessarily changed, but what did change is how the software interacts with the car. SDD was getting dated and using some "backwards" thought processes. So, the Pathfinder software was meant to make it more intuitive to use. The later cars, the update files may be a bit different (hence why they do not work on SDD) if you are looking to replace modules or the like. BUt, for day to day looking at issues, most OBD readers, SDD, and/or Pathfinder are going to meet what you need. I use a $20 ELM 327 V2.1 for most of my diagnostics. Only when I have to get into the body modules and whatnot does the SDD software come out.

 

Thank you, Thermo! That's good to hear. Based on that info, I just ordered the Foxwell NT530 with the Land Rover and Jaguar software pack.


I just need to do basic maintenance items like changing rear brake pads, brake bleeding, new battery, oil light reset, show transmission temp for adjusting fluid level, etc. If it can do those things, I will be happy.

 

For anyone with a later model XJ, I can now confirm with my 2019 that the Foxwell NT530 for JLR works to automatically read the VIN and car details, read all the codes from all of the modules, reset all the codes, and I have tested putting the brake system in and out of maintenance mode to release the parking brake motors on both sides without throwing any codes.

I just got it yesterday, but I am happy those items tested ok. I will use it bleed the ABS when I switch to ceramic pads in a couple of weeks, and when my XJL is out of complimentary maintenance in a couple years, I am confident it will have no trouble resetting the oil change light. It claims to do a lot more than those items, so I think it's well worth the $150.
