Please help me find out where I'm leaking coolant from
So I have a slow leak. I believe it is coolant it's super hard to tell where it's coming from without taking everything apart. I see it pooling up right under the bottom pulley anybody know what is leaking?
it's kind of hard to see in the pictures. But it is all wet behind that bottom pulley please help. It's a slow slow leak though.
The simplest way to find a coolant leak is to pressurise the system to 1 bar with a cooling system pressure tester when the engine is cold. If the pressure shown on the gauge begins to drop, look around the engine compartment for leaks using a mirror.
The location you're indicating as damp under the crankshaft pulley is often caused by an oil leak from the vacuum pump.
Okay I'm pretty sure I'm not leaking oil I guess I'll have to pull the skid plate off to see I just did an oil change. Evac. I pulled out the right amount. Pretty sure like 7 quarts or something. I know I have a coolant leak I can smell it
It could be the water (coolant) pump as that is a well known failure point on the AJ133 and AJ126.
The water pump is the highest mounted pulley of those driven by the accessories belt, it sits immediately below the throttle body and immediately above the crank (bottom) pulley, therefore any coolant pooling behind the crank pulley could well be coming from the coolant pump above.
Edit - a picture is worth a thousands words, from the AJ133 Technical Training doc:
Thank you so much I'm thinking that's probably what it is. If it is the water pump leaking can gaskets be replaced or does it need a new one. How hard is the diy. Maybe I'll go rent one if those pressure testers at the autozone by my house n try to make sure that's where it's coming from.

Never had it done myself but I understand that the whole water pump needs to be replaced not just gaskets, seals and o-rings. Also JLR cannot get the design right and so far there have been at least four different versions. Not sure how hard it is to DIY and also can't remember if the SC needs to come off or not but either way I suspect it is not a job for a rank amateur.
Okay thanks man. I appreciate all the advice thank you. I'll make sure that's where it's leaking from then I'll see how much work it is if I feel like I can do it myself otherwise ill bring it to a shop Thanks

It would likely be best for you to take it to a dealership & have it identified & repaired.
The reason I suggest that is that you're posting about a very simple & common topic that is posted about ad nauseum in The Forum, and you're not able to search through existing posts for anything to do with it.
No offense, but if you can't do that, I'm afraid you probably have no chance of troubleshooting or repairing an automobile yourself; and if you try, it may cost excessive money and cause damage that can't be repaired.
I'm not saying I'm good with cars but if I can't do it I have enough people that are really close to me that would be willing to help they just never worked on jaguars. But I mean my people are willing to help me I'm a younger person and they like that I'm learning cars I have a thousand $ scanner. So they are really open to helping I also work at an oil change shop haha. I am open to it taking longer or perhaps even stull.having to take it in after my attempt but I would like attempt to fix it myself if it seems fine. I've replaced alternators and control arms and wheel bearings so if it's something I can do I'll do otherwise ill take it in I think once I research and confirm that's where it's leaking I'll be able to tell if it's something I can do or with help or if it's better suited for a shop.
If they haven't been replaced already, the water outlet pipes under the supercharger snout, and the heater pipe between the cylinder heads at the back of the engine should also be replaced as they are also known failure points in addition the faulty water pumps.
As a point of caution: should you ever see a 'Low Coolant' level on the instrument cluster, stop the engine immediately to avoid catastrophic engine damage from overheating. The AJ133/126 head(s) and or block can warp from overheating causing the head gasket(s) to fail.
Alright wow thank you. So we know an average mileage when this stuff starts to go bad. I'm thinking I'm around there now at 93k miles.
Yep, 93k miles is well into when this stuff starts to fail on some cars. Of course it varies a lot from car to car and from fault to fault, on some one or more of these parts start to fail at as little as 25k miles (especially the SC coupler), on others none of these things fail for 100k miles, it really is pot luck.
Other than replacing the suspect parts as preventative maintenance all you can do is religiously keep up service and maintenance, especially on oil and coolant, at least as often as scheduled and preferably twice as often for the engine oil.
Oh wow that's very good to know. Noted. I religiously change the oil 3-4k miles would never go over 4k but I try to get it done at 3 but usually ends up getting closer to 4k. I use nothing but Castrol as that's recommended on the cap. So it's basically not if I get a coolant leak at one of these areas its more of a when. Thanks. Is there upgraded parts that are better to be put in place like stronger plastic or something that last longer.

Yep, sure is, from EuroAmp, with the two main coolant pipes in alu alloy.
At least for the problematic plastic coolant system pipes etc, see here: https://euro-amp.com/products/jaguar...charged-engine
That's for the V8 (AJ133), see here for the V6 (AJ126): https://euro-amp.com/products/jaguar...charged-engine
You haven't told us yet which of these two engines you have!
One word of warning - those kits don't include ALL the gaskets, seals and O-rings needed to change over all of those parts, and you also need the water pump connection piece/pipe (which you can also get in alu alloy, just not sure where from).
Last but not least those kits include the plastic heater manifold pipe (at the rear of the engine) which is another of the common failure points but that one is still seamed/plasti-welded, there is talk of a new alu alloy version being looked into but it appears to be a long way off yet.

As I understand from my service manager, he stated that the water pump is one of few weaknesses for the 5.0 V8. He also said that it is an easy fix to rep[lace the whole unit and upper radiator hose as well.. I thought of doing this on mine anyway as I like to get ahead of any issues.

That is a great post and information, OzXFR. Thank you. I have saved the link for the V6, which is mine and very much appreciate the extra (highlighted in) purple information. If any listers have any info on upgrading those other parts please do fire away.... Meantime, I will buy the kit or similar. Thanks, Oz.
