2.7 died while driving
Hello
I have just received my xj 2008 2.7 from Germany. Delivered on platform. 114k on board with full service history.
It came down from the platform on it's own power. sat at idle for 5 minutes. Start driving , after 400 m , immediately after a second speed bump , it just died , and would not start. No noise, no nothing. It cranks but wont start. Checked the inertia switch and it is pressed.
Tried a third party diagnose.... it is unable to reset the immobilizer. The car is in mint condition .
Any advice?
thanks

Hi
what makes you believe that you have to or would be able to reset the immobilizer with third-party software?
Immobilizer is switched off by the transponder recognition or not at all. Do you have a second key? Already tried?
Since it's a diesel it's a fuel problem if it won't start. Conceivable is that
- the high pressure pump is not working because the feed pump is not delievering or the fuel lines are böocked or interrupted.
- the high pressure pump is not running (timing belt)
- the injectors are not triggered by the ECU.
Since there are other possibilities, it would make sense to first read out the fault memory.

First thanks for the reply

when i turn the ignition i can hear the feed pump
- the high pressure pump is not running (timing belt)
when the engine stopped, i did not hear anyy nois (piston meeting the valves) but it stopped just after i passed a speed bump there fore i assumed that this two are linked ... although it might be just a coincidence
- the injectors are not triggered by the ECU.
These seems to be my no 1 suspect. But my idea is that the ecu does not trigger the injectors because of the immobilizer . I also read about a tilt sensor... could this be another suspect?
I lean to think that the issue is electronic because the stopping of the engine was silky smooth ... no noise, no sputter , no hiccups ....
next step is to check if the diesel is reaching the injectors.
Regarding the timing belt... if it would be broken.. when i crank the engine it should make some noise... pistons hitting valves.... but it turns normaly . it just wont start

The Jaguar 2.7 litre V6 diesel was a joint development by Peugeot and JLR (under Ford), and is the only Jaguar engine with a timing belt. However, the HP fuel pump is driven at the back of the engine using a short belt off one of the camshafts. This doesn't do any timing, because the fuel injectors are fired at the correct timing from the ECU. There is, of course, another fuel pump in the tank.
You say it might be the fuel tank pump, but if operation of this is part of the security software, then a new pump will not cure your problem. Does everything else work when you turn on the ignition ?

At the curent service they remove the fuel line from the filler and said that the fuel supplied by the tank pump is to low.... therefore it should be the pump. However I asked them to remove the pump to check it... maybe it is just clogged.
Also I let them order a new pump.
Hopefully it is just as simple.
Is there a faster place to buy this pump, other then waiting 3 weeks? Seems to me that they are manufacturing one right now 🤣
and the saga continues
Took the car to a LAND ROVER/ Jaguar service. Replace the fuel pump with a second hand one.
Car runs fine. On the way home from the service , drive on the highway, about 140km/h, chill and rain outside.... suddenly RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE, DSC NOT AVAILABLE..... and the car starts to slow... and eventualy comes to a stop... I managed to move on the emergency lane... Tried to start it again, at a moment it seeams to start but no... so ... called a recovery truck... back to the service

Update.
Today my wife took the car out of service... drove it back home. She spotted the issue as follows : as soon as you try to go fast ( more throttle input) the engine stops. As if it is starved of fuel. After it stops, a few seconds and it stars an runs just fine . She was able to bring the car home (some 40km) by just keeping it under 2000rpm. Back home i tried to make some runs , and her conclusion seems to be correct. As soon as you try to use more throttle, the engine stalls. Tomorrow i will change the diesel filter. Also check maybe the lines going into the filter are misplace , or some filter problem. If the fuel line would have been taking air, i suppose the engine wouldn't start...

update
changed the fuel filter today. Car runs fine for some 20 km, while i really try to accelerate hard... and dies while i drive normally. no check engine light, no other messages on dash ... starts after 30's and then just runs normal.
Really i cannot trust the car to move because it can stop without warning.
I am really confused because it doesn't light any warning, no errors
ANY IDEAS?
