Default 2005 VDP Super- DSC Not Available

I recently introduced myself in the welcome section, my name is Donny. I have recently purchased a beautiful 2005 VP super double black. I have two problems. The first is DSC not available. I went down to the local auto part house yesterday to have it scanned with a Bosch brand scanner. It is not throwing any code to that scanner. just P1111 which I think is just a ready code? Any thoughts on what I should be looking for, or at?

Smaller problems, auto rear window screen does not go up, and I have no power to the back seat memories. Perhaps fuse related? Any and all knowledge to these issues are welcomed. I have tried searching the site. But then get stuck reading with interests in the threads, even when it is not related to the problems at hand LOLs!

Thank you much in advance!

P1111 is a good status code. Smog tests have a decent chance

Any codes for the ABS (DSC) need a specialist tool and are not stored where the P1111 is.

Yes, it smogged absolutely fine last week, no issue there. Is the specialist tool dealer only? If so, that would suck! Car is perfect other then the aforementioned problems. Going to run it over to the Coast today (Lincoln City, Oregon) Will be its first trip with me. And hopeful while optimistic, she purrs right on down there with no problems. My 2001 was just a really great pretty trouble free car before it was hit parked and totaled And hoping this 2005 Super is just as wonderful. She has a great pedigree with a whistle solid carfax history, was sold new in Portland,Oregon 1 owner, extensive service at Monte Shelton Jag selling dealer. Feel lucky I found this one as a replacement.

Going on from what JagV8 has told you, I use this:

https://www.icarsoft.com/Product/s-2...oft_lr_v1.html

There is a V2 as well; not sure what the difference is bar price?

There are better, more complex and more expensive Jaguar-Specific Code Readers out there. This will not allow you to change settings etc, but you will be able to read all Jaguar P,B, C & U Codes and clear them?

I hope this is of help to you.

Es Ray has a much nicer reader than mine
My i930 icarsoft, cost less, reads & clears, the Jaguar specific codes.
Google them see which model does what.
A dealer level scan, & program tool, to program modules to function.
Is on my wish list, but way TOO expensive for me.
Looking for a used one from a dealer i can afford for a while now.

This is a Captain Obvious question. What happens when you push the Traction control button on the center console? Traction control is not the same as DSC, of course, but I am curious if that system works as well.

I would definitely go on a fuse hunt for the rear seat memory issue. The rear sunshade has a tendency to get stuck when not used for long periods. perhaps the previous owner rarely used it. If possible have someone actuate the switch while trying to free it up with gentle efforts if you can get a plastic blade under the section that rises -or is supposed to!

If you can get it to rise, some folks have used a penetrant at the two outer edges, but I would not use much as that will have an odor.

Good luck with the new ride. I do love a Super V8!

Thank you all for the comments. I am thinking it may be worth the purchase of a scan tool long term so that I do not have to rely on other places to get codes out of the car. As one person asked, about the traction control switch. It is not responding at all. Even when held down for several seconds. The car ran terrific to the coast this weekend, reporting roughly 23 average MPG. I am surprised how much better this 2005 Super handles compared to my former 2001 VDP SC. It handles like a Porche compared. And the power of the 4.2 is pretty terrific and willing.

Again thank you, and if anyone has any more input I welcome it. Or if someone has had the same problem as I am now, I would love to know what the fix was for your car.

check the wheel speed sensors and also the wiring and plug to each sensor. The wires can get cut or damaged since they are exposed.

The ICarSoft seems popular and useful (I've a car with very similar modules).

With a DSC fault maybe the TC/TCS button does less or nothing?

Just procured Icarsoft 1.0 on Ebay for $109. Thank you for the recommendations, hopeful this leads me to the DSC N/A problem. Last night, it decided to drop a cylinder with engine light. Pretty sure it is a dreaded coil. You could not even feel the engine running prior, it was so silky smooth! As I know coils for whatever reason can be problematic in Jags. I will have the unit on Saturday, just in time to plan on working through these little problems. I am hopeful I can make the tool available to others in the Portland, Or area that are in need of help. But for the money, it would seem a necessary thing to have, that will pay for itself many times over. And frankly hoping, I do not actually need to use it that much at all!

I will update my repairs where successful.

As for coils i tried a set of Chinese coils eight for less than a hundred dollars.
Life time warranty, and they work great, so good i bought a second set for the other Jaguar.
The originals still worked, (their in the trunk) but were swelled up a bit hard to remove when i replaced the plugs.
The Chinese coils are thinner, easier to install, or remove.
After several thousand miles, their still going strong

Not sure where you heard coils are problematic on Jaguars. All cars that use coil-on-plug have occasional failures. The Mazda V6 we had blew coils up so often I bought them in volume on eBay. My 2 X350's have seen exactly zero coil failures over 170k miles on one and 108k on the other which I see as pretty GOOD.

Once you have your scanner you can obviously sort out which coil failed and replace it or the set if you feel it's a good idea. I find the scanners useful, but for day to day I keep a bluetooth OBD2 reader on the port in my cars. I have one on all 4 cars and just fire up Torque Pro on the phone if I want to read or clear a code or Check Engine light. I can get real engine temp vs. the idiot gauge we have, time a 0-60 run for fun, and lots of other stuff like check for smog test readiness. You should consider one in addition to the icarsoft.

Heres one I have on a few cars for 22 bucks.

Thanks again for the heads up on the interface, it too would seem worth the money. I borrowed a friends Zurich Scanner tool. It helped me identify Cylinder 5 as the culprit. Threw in a new coil, all silky smooth again. It is throwing P1696 code Adaptive speed control Can Link, Adaptive control speed fail. Problem is, the cruise works just fine as does the adaptive.... What the hell?

Have you tried clearing the code to see if it returns?

I did a hard reset, the code reader I have would not clear this particular code. And it remains.

Not positive but believe the icarsoft Jaguar scanners do the P codes.
Believe the P stands for power train..

Normally a code behaving like that means there is an actual fault - just you haven't found & fixed it yet.
