2005 VPD front brake differences
Im having some brake squealing and a soft pedal issue, even though the rotors and pads were replaced, and the system bled several times. It was okay for a month, but little by little the squealing is there, and the pedal has a softer feel. The shop that replaced the rotors spoke with me and told me that they ordered the bigger rotors and the correct pads for my car but that there was a broken bolt that required tapping the threads to a slightly larger thread on the caliper mount, but that it was no big deal. Yet they also believe that the calipers came off a different jag and that the pads dont fit...So they had to grind the pads a bit. Im going to take the car to my regular Jag mechanic and have them sort it out. But I want to know what changed in 2005 models that would make a difference when ordering front brake parts.
Sounds like the garage that did the work really do not know what they are doing. I would take it to a different garage and get the job done properly. You should never have to grind down pads to make them fit. The brakes on these cars a pretty easy to change so there is not a lot to get wrong or have to bodge. Different brake calipers where fitted to the SC and VDP models from the NAs. I believe that earlier models of the X350 had twin piston calipers, my 2003 certainly did. Mine was the NA so didn't have the uprated Brembo brakes which the SC cars had fitted.
Something sounds wrong for certain, sounds like you still have air trapped in the lines.
Pedal should be very firm, & the car should take a nose dive, with not much pressure on the pedal.
JX350 is right, find another garage that knows whats what, brakes are simple.
Better yet do it yourself

Yeah, Ive had lots of years dealing with Jags and this one is way easier to work with than models with Teves brake systems. I used to work on my cars, but my line of work prevents me from getting in there. I use a Jag specialist for my XJS and XJ40 so the car goes in tomorrow to his shop. I will update the thread once I get the car back from him. Im sure I will be contacting the shop that botched the job. I still can’t believe they had to grind the pads down.

Got the car back today and now its stopping like it should. My Jag mechanic says everything is awesome now. Problems were: cheap brake pads, missing spring clips and the fact that they ground down the pads. So a trifecta. I called the shop that botched it,and the guy got defensive, told me that he went through 4 different pad sets and that my calipers were probably off a different Jag model...blah blah. blah. He tried to cut corners and play the numbers game with my safety. He had to be made aware of it. Im seeing him tomorrow.

The garage that bodged it are telling lies. You calipers will most likely not come from another car or model. Hes just trying to cover for doing a very bad job and not having the skills to do the work correctly. They need to at least give you your money back and pay for the other work you had to get done elsewhere. I do the brakes on mine myself and they are very simple to do and a lot cheaper even using quality parts. Good luck and glad the car is back to normal.
