Default Adding Rear Seat DVD?

Hey there guys,
I was thinking of adding the Jaguar OEM DVD players and headrest monitors, does anyone know how I would go about doing this? And does anyone know about how to add Jaguar Voice?

Thank you!
Matt

To what extent do you wish to go? If you want to do it the way Jaguar does it with the controls in the rear seat centre arm rest or are you just for doing it the aftermarket route. The Jaguar install would I think be an absolute pain in the butt to do.

I have a friend with an S type who recently did a very tidy install and if you like, I will get some details from him for you. His installation looked very professional. Perhaps if you would like to give me your E-mail address I could put the two of you together. I am sure he would not mind.

I'd love to do it as close to OEM as possible, armrest and all. The info would, however, come in handy!
I can't PM you, so I made an email thats safe to post:

There are several parts to your project. The first and most difficult is the wiring harness. If the rear ICE harness isn't there that would be a big expense and a lot of trouble to install. Second is the hardware itself. I've seen complete setups go on eBay for $500-$600, including the trunk-mount DVD player, the armrest controls and the headrests. These would be fairly simple to install. The third part would be the D2B ring. You might need a new cable that has enough connectors, or you could add connectors to the existing harness. Finally, you may need to visit the dealer to have the system recognize the hardware.

Jaguar Voice is easier. I know the car is prewired for that. If you have the phone all you need is the Voice Module. If not, you also need the Mic.

Big job, wow, not to mention pulling those rear seats out...if they're power.

No, the rear seats aren't power.

Originally, when we we were buying the Jaguar, we had 2 choices:

a 05 Super V8 Portfolio, black on black, spec'd out, 45,000 miles. $40,000

or a 06 Vanden Plas, nav and bluetooth, gold and beige interior, 18,000 miles $38,000

We went with the VDP, because of the lower mileage, newer model year, and the preferable color- we've had bad luck with black cars, birds seem to target them! Plus, the gold looks oh-so-nice, and you don't see too many winter golds out there.

I wanted the DVD, but we made a trade off which I hope paid off. I've got a budget of $1500 set out on this project,

Rear Seat Center Console DVD Control 2005 Jaguar XJ8L | eBay

Jaguar s Type Factory Rear Seat Connectivity System DVD Video Headrest Kit | eBay

2004 2006 2008 Jaguar XJ8 XJ8L XJR Vanden Plas DVD Video CD Player 2W9319G292AC | eBay
Jaguar X350 XJ Boot D2B Radio Link Lead Harness 2W93 18K925 Bea New C2C14164 | eBay

What else?

Here is a complete-looking setup of the factory installed kit, pulled and tested...

04 07 Jaguar X350 XJ8 Vanden Plas Entertainment DVD TV Headrest Conversion | eBay

Good luck, and take pics!

The OEM factory integrated In Car Entertainment kit is great integration, but the add-on headrest kit is nice, too. Main difference is the ability to control head unit from rear seats and to control rear entertainment from head unit.

The add-on kit is a neat package however, it doesn't completely integrate with the in-car system. It is a great standalone setup, it just can't play the movie through the car speakers (and is/was only about $150).

Here is a link for some pics of installing the add-in kit.

For your XJ, you will want to find the S-type kit in color of your interior.

Thanks a ton for the link, I'll try to put in a cheaper bid for it. I want the closest to OEM so I won't get nicked at reselling time

Thanks a lot, again!
Matt

You need a voice module like this: 2004 05 06 2007 Jaguar XJ8 XJ8L Vanden Plas Vacm Voice Module 2R8F 14B292 AB | eBay

If you don't have a mic already you need one: Jaguar LNA7307AALFJ Overhead Console Microphone | eBay

You may or may not need a new D2B cable, depending on whether or not you have an extra in the ring by the electronics stack. You can also add a new connector to an existing ring.

The car may or may not need some time with SDD/IDS to enable the Voice. Otherwise it's plug and play.

It would depend on the dealership; the dealer I worked for would do OEM installs at a cost ($$$$). We would do "Aftermarket" installs with a signed waiver due to the unknowns of what might happen.

I would go with the link "magmedia" provided:

Do you think that the dealer you worked with would do the work for like 2k? I have the mic and voice module, I believe...

Sorry, the dealer I worked for closed in 2009. That would have been a long drive just for an install (California to Missouri)?

I meant, do you think 2k would have been enough to have them do the work if they were still open?

I looked into fitting the factory rear entertainment to my XJR (as I had done with my X-Type).

It's a pretty complicated job if you want to make it OEM, you need;

Headrests with screens (matching the colour of your interior)
Media console for the rear armrest
AV splitter box
DVD player (from the correct region, damn things are region coded)
Plus all the wiring, which unless you can strip out a wrecked car, will need to be custom made.

Going for aftermarket individual DVD player headrests would be an easier install, but might have trouble colour matching the leather.

I shelved this project because of other priorities, and the fact I have Cranberry leather in mine, which will never be found in a wrecking yard...

There are two more options with the rear entertainment system too; 4-zone voice control, i.e. the passengers can also use voice, and putting the motorola phone in the armrest of the back seat for "privacy". Both options required some additional wiring, which you will probably not find any more...

Sorry for the delay, I am currently in Temple, TX to train deploying soldiers. Yes, they would have done the work for 2k, but as Cambo351 indicated; you need a few more items to make this work correctly or go the aftermarket route.
