Hi Bruce,

Have you just tried to press the boot release button (on the boot or in the cabin) and then try to shut the boot. It might just think the boot is already closed and has engaged the mechanism.

Thanks,

Chris

JX350,

I tried to close the latch with the boot open and it worked. But when I then opened the boot catch via the boot release button (on the boot or in the cabin) the latch opened but when I tried to close the boot it wouldn't latch. Would this have anything to do with my other issue with low battery power ?

Is the boot lock asm making the locking noise when you close it? It should whir and pull it closed when you drop the lid if it isn't then you may have a dead boot latch mechanism. When I broke mine I had a slight panic that I couldn't close the boot but a good slam solved it. A replacement latch mech fixed it about £75 on ebay.

Joe Dredd,

No its not making a noise when I close it. Will have a further look at the latch tonight.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Bruce,

I wouldn't do anything with the boot problem until you've checked the battery. You might be wasting your time and money looking at a problem that does not exist if it's a problem with the battery or alternator.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Bruce,

Hopefully it will be something simple causing all the problems.

Cheers,

Chris

Meirion1

I have just got my car car back from the auto electrician and been told all my Boot lid issues are being cause because of no battery power due to the alternator not charging the battery. He charged the battery and the boot lid catch opened and when I put the lid down it worked Fine. Awaiting arrival of new alternator on Monday and will fit it on Tuesday. Hopefully end of issues.

Thanks very much for your help folks.

Hi Bruce,

So it was a battery problem caused by the alternator. Glad you got it sorted. At least now you don't have to worry about fixing anything else as it was related to the battery condition as we suspected.

Thanks for the update.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks for the update Bruce and thanks for letting us all know. At least you didn't spend too much time hunting for issues that did not exist and caused by low battery due to the alternator. Glad it's all back up and running.
