Question Check Engine Light On - 04 XJ

Hello, mistakenly bought gas at Sam's club and it appears it had some problems. After filling up, and driving for a little, the car was running rough and the check engine light appeared. I put Seafoam in the tank and the car appears to be running great again. OBDII codes indicate misfires on several cylinders and cause could be bad fuel. Since its running fine now, I tried to clear the codes but would not work with my OBDII device. Anyone know how to get the check engine light off? Again, the car is running great. Thanks!

Try disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery, wait about a half minute, reconnect the negative terminal and let the computer boot up. That should clear all codes.

Try looking for any other fault codes which could be present eg oxygen sensors.

Does it happen when you restart with a warm engine, 20-30 minutes after you stopped? It's been discussed here a few times recently, about main engine computer calibrations not working well with winter blend fuels with ethanol....

Next tank, try using ethanol free fuel and see if the behaviors change.

I ran into this recently, and ended up reflashing the engine computer, which appears to have resolved the issue.

Thx for suggestions. I'll try with a warm engine. Codes 1316 and 1111 have multi possible fuel related issues, and with new fuel refill occurring shortly before light came on, I'm assuming it's fuel source. 1316 has this list.
—ECM to ignition coil primary circuit fault (Cylinder misfire detected DTC also flagged) Fuel injector circuit fault(s) (Injector DTCs also flagged) Ignition coil failure Spark plug failure / fouled / incorrect gap Cylinder compression low Fuel delivery pressure (low / high) Fuel injector(s) restricted / leaking Fuel injector(s) continuously open Fuel contamination Worn camshaft / broken valve spring(s)

Is it safe to assume since it's now running normal or well that those other items are unlikely?

DTC P1111 not really a trouble. This means that all monitors for OBDII are completed! Jaguar x350 always have either P1111 or P1000. Monitors either completed or not. Not necesserily something wrong with car. It took my car 3 months to set all monitors completed after resetting OBDII DTC's.

I had rough running engine with missfire code. Replaced spark plugs and coils. I just bought this car then. Missfire went away. My car had a consistent #1 missfire and code moved when I moved coil to different cylinder

Good luck!

It's NOT running normally!! P1316 is a bad code to have and you can expect cat damage if not fixed.

P1111 is good as has been posted.

Usually you'd have more codes. Don't you?
