Default Code Meanings

Probably been posted several times but buried. I've had an issue with restricted performance message coming on along with the engine light.
So today stopped by to have it read with an analyzer. First code is P0333 knock sensor condition. Four probable causes 1) knock sensor defective; 2) check connector and wiring to sensor; 3) Engine mechanical condition -knock or rattle in engine; 4) low fuel pressure. What has been happening is I go to quickly accelerate and it stalls, let off and I can go on. I can in regular driving increase speed without a problem.
Code P1111 has something to do with air metering. Not sure because model did not show up on read out on computer.
Would like help in deciphering just what these codes are.
Thanks in advance. Bill

It is always helpful if you can let everyone know what MY your vehicle is and any other details.

If you have checked the wiring loom and connections, most likely you must replace the knock sensor.

The symptoms sound like a failing fuel pump to me, I suggest you have the fuel pressure measured- it should be 55 psi.

Yep, NBCAT, that would have been helpful just slipped my mind. The vehicle is a 2004 Jag XJ8.

Bill,

The Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are explained in some detail in the various sections of the X350 Workshop Manual, which you can download from this forum at these links:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/md...f+contents.pdf
http://www.mediafire.com/download/aa...nformation.pdf
http://www.mediafire.com/download/n3...2.+Chassis.pdf
http://www.mediafire.com/download/9b...Powertrain.pdf
http://www.mediafire.com/download/0i...Electrical.pdf
http://www.mediafire.com/download/4j...+and+Paint.pdf

I am also attaching the DTC Summaries manual.

Note that most standard OBDII scanners can only read the P or Powertrain codes. To read the C (Chassis), B (Body) and U (Undefined, mostly Network) codes requires a dealer-level system like IDS or SDD, a high-end third-party system like AutoEnginuity with the added Jaguar extension, or a special scanner like the iCarsoft i930 for Jaguar XJ. If you've only had codes read with a standard scanner, it is possibly you may have additional stored codes that may provide additional clues.

You can ignore the P1111 code, which simply means the system has completed all its checks since the last time the memory was cleared.

Regarding the P0333 code, one of the possibilities is poor knock sensor contact with the cylinder block. Another possibility is a loose or corroded electrical connector (high resistance). The Powertrain section of the Workshop Manual gives pinpoint tests you can follow to track down the cause.

Cheers,

Don

Thankyou very much Don. That will be very helpful. Ok, guys here is what I found out as of yesterday. I got with a mechanic that knows and loves trouble shooting electrical possibilities. Young man very tenatious in what he does. He got into this and rode it like a chanpion bull rider to find any possible electrical problem. Now I have to relook look a diagram to tell you the exact connection it came off of but he found a short in the wiring, tested it several times and off on a test ride! he took off in the Jag and I just knew it was going to stall out but it didn't! It ran like a scolded dog! No problems with it now and I have been driving it since the repair after codes were cleared and nothing has shown up again and no stallling!! I htought for sure here we go start replacing plugs and electronic coils and possibly fuel filter but Randy's great attitude and desire to find the problem found the issue. I couldn't thank him enough!

It would be helpful for other forum members if you could post the nature of the 'short in the wiring' and where it was located. If he tested the repair, what was the repair and how was it tested?

Actually not much too report. Randy did a thorough job trouble shooting cause and effect. On top of the engine where the wiring harness splits and goes out to connections he found one small bare area that was causing my problems with acceleration. Once stabilized and covered problem no longer exists.
