Graham,

I've moved your question from UK & Eire Region forum to X350 forum.

You have a better chance of Views and Replies posting TECHNICAL questions in the MODEL forum. The REGION forum is intended for questions about recommended specialists, meetings and other geographically relevant topics.

The secondary air injection pump is in the right front bumper. To access, you need to remove the undertray that covers the bumper. I believe the relay for the AIR pump is located next to the pump motor.

P244400 - Secondary air injection system pump stuck ON. Possibly causes: Secondary air injection pump control circuit: short circuit to ground.

You should easily be able to hear if the AIR pump running continuously. It will normally run for 30 seconds or so on a cold start then shut off.

It's on the right side of the car. If you're in the UK, then it will be on the driver's side. Once you remove the bumper undertray it will be very obvious--one side has the air suspension pump and the other has the AIR injector. It looks like a vacuum cleaner motor:

You would probably not notice any drivability symptoms with the secondary air injection system malfunctioning. However, if it were my car I would not ignore this code. The AIR pump is not designed to run continuously, and if your pump is stuck on it won't take long before it has burned out. I presume that you can't pass an annual vehicle inspection with a Check Engine light on. Right now the issue may be a simple stuck relay, but let it go unrepaired and you could be looking at replacing the whole pump.

It's your call if you want to leave it unrepaired. I couldn't say whether this will become a money pit or not. Jaguar has never been synonymous with economical repair costs.

I do not have the circuit diagram for your car, so the following guess may be way off base.
My assumption is that the relay has +ve applied when the ignition is on and the ECU then controls the ground/earth circuit. If it checks for voltage before grounding the circuit, and there is no voltage, due to a short between relay and ECU, it will think the pump is stuck on.
Check the relay ground wire to ECU - Ohmmeter on ground at engine or other known ground and other probe on relay -ve wire to ECU. The resistance should be almost infinite.
