Default Dead Radio

I'm posting this for my local Jag Tech, who has an '05 XJR.

His radio/CD player went dead.

Fuse good. There's power to the CD pack in the boot.

The type of radio he has also has the single CD slot in the radio.

Any ideas? Or, does anyone have a good working radio?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,

If the radio head unit will not power on at all, I would check the fuse 5 (5A) and fuse 35 (10A) in the passenger footwell fuse box. Fuse 5 provides ignition-switched power to the head unit and fuse 35 provides main battery power. If the fuses test good for continuity, check the ground point referenced by the head unit, which is on the right hand side of the transmission tunnel. The grounds are known to become corroded with a very thin layer of white aluminum oxide, which is an electrical insulator. Clean the threaded stud, nut and eyelet wire terminals with a brass brush and zero-residue electronic cleaner and reassemble. Note that the torque spec for the ground nut is just 6.5 ft. lbs., or just over hand-tight. Several members have snapped studs off the body by overtightening them.

I believe radio illumination comes via the dimmer circuit.

The next suspects would be the security system and the D2B optical network. Search the forums for threads on these topics.

You can download the Electrical Guide for his car here:

Jaguar X350 Electrical Guide 2005

Cheers,

Don

If the radio appears to be working in all respects but no sound:

Thank you all. John has checked everything Don suggested, and no luck.
I've forwarded meirion's post too.
Thank you!!

Default Potential Radio Fix

Hi

I had a dead radio on a 2003 xj6.

Lights up, everything working but no sound.

Eventually removed the power amp in the boot.

Stripped it down (not too hard)

Re-soldered all 'dry' looking joints

Fixed

I had a similar problem and found I had accidentally pushed the phone call button on the steering wheel.

For whatever reason, it would not clear even after shutting off the car.

I did a hard reset and it went away.
