Default Evap Emission Sys Incorrect Purge Flow

Hi. Could use a hand.

2009 VDP with engine light on. Code: P0441 Evaporative Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow.

When starting, it doesn't want to fire unless I push the peddle or turn the key on/off/on to send extra fuel. I have looked for a purge value online but nothing comes up for 09 XJ.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Here are the definition and possible causes of P0441 from the Diagnostic Trouble Codes Summaries, which I am attaching.

For the location of the purge valve, see pages 27-28 of the Technical Introduction, which I am also attaching.

Cheers,

Don

Thanks Don. It is difficult to find parts for the '09 and service/parts literature.

Would you know where the charcoal canister is located, and if possible, the part number for the purge valve either.

Do you stop filling the tank when it shuts off the first time, or put a little more in?
Stop filling when it shuts off, or you can put raw fuel into the vapor system, causing havoc with the emissions systems.

Maybe it will dry out driving on the highway.
Let fuel level drop to 1/3 tank before refueling.

Might there be a way to expel any possible fuel in the vapor system?

Hope that driving clears it, not a cheap part.

Hi Wingrider. I have not had the time to explore this further. The engine light is still on after clearing codes. P0441 Evaporative Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow. If the purge valve hose is disconnected as shown with blue arrow, woudln't that cause a vacuum issue? I had the tube off but no change. Could it maybe be the Evap Emission Canister Purge Value itself? I could hear something with the stethoscope but hard to know if that is what I am hearing. I heard that to replace the charcoal canister the rear differential would need to be dropped. Is that right? I thought starting with the valve might be a cheaper route.
Any thoughts? Thanks. Peter
