Headlight and headliner/airbag
Just took delivery of a 2005 Vanden Plas with just under 82,000 miles yesterday. I don’t have photos yet as it was late and darkness had settled in. Outside of needing the tires balanced and and fresh alignment, it was the best drive and ride of my 66 years!
my questions: since it was dusk, I needed headlights but once it became dark, the headlight illumination was woefully inadequate, IMHO. Scared actually. The fog lights helped but, since I had another driver with me who drove my other car, I let him follow me the last bit home and saw that the passenger side light disappeared completely when he made a left turn behind me. Once parked, it kind of flickered lightly. The “running light” are no help either, more decorative than functional. I fear the car will never pass inspection. Is there something that I can do or consider regarding this issue? (Yes, the covers are slightly dull but I’m
sure not bad enough to cause this hazard).
Also, had headliner repaired by upholstery guy I believe, in situ. It was not replaced. However, the moonroof section had clips that apparently broken so, the slider is in the trunk without repair. Are the clips available?
Oh! One more thing. Navigation “works” but I could not input an address; stopped after four figures, just froze.
Feedback would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
I forgot to mention the airbag light is now on. The previous owner said it would go away but I’m unsure. 🫤 Resolution?

The airbag light could be due to the clock spring being a bit dirty / defective. There isn't much to them and you can take them out to clean, just do a search on clock spring on the forum.
What type of lights do you have? Are they halogen or Xenon type? The xenon bulbs will start to flicker when they get old and can loose luminosity with age. If you look at the bottom of the headlamp lens you will see it stamped DS1 if it is a xenon type lamp.
What version of the nav software do you have I sounds like you may have an older version that only partial postcodes.

As far as navigation, I’m not sure of the version. I had the car three days and sent it to be taken care of.
The lights are Xenon and the shop it’s at now tell me they have replaced those bulbs.
Upon further inspection, the car needed three of the four air shocks replaced and the bushings for the tear suspension - as of today.
The speakers were apparently broken and I had them replaced, as well as spark plugs and an oil change. Coils appear ok.
Discovered the tires were sixteen years old which mandated a change.
So far my damages are around $9000. I paid $6000 for the car.
The headliner was “fixed” just before taking delivery but the moonroof slider was not fixed because the guy had two clips break. I’m not happy about that.
So, I feel like the previous owner, actually the nephew of the owner, was not well versed on the condition of this vehicle. It’s obvious that the bushings needing replacement, and you can’t just replace them since they come in a suspension component, are original to the car.
Perhaps I’m putting too much into this vehicle but it shows very well, everything works - with the exception of the rear sunshade and folding passenger side mirror, and retains the wool carpets, plus, I really love the look! I have not been successful in coming up with a name yet.
Finish is great as it was garaged all of its life. With only 80,000 miles in those twenty years, it wasn’t driven as much as it could have been.
New tires, suspension, alignment, speakers, etc., it will be like driving a new car.
I do need to inquire about updating the navigation disk and inquire about the possibility of upgrading the audio system to Bluetooth Sirius XM with Apple car play. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Regarding the navigation, I would just forget about it and use the mobile phone for navigating.
Why?
1, The most recent version of the navigation maps is 2012, so pretty much obsolete.
2, the sat nav of the Jag just show routes, but does not have the possibility to take traffic jams into consideration and show alternative routes, because it does not have any connection to any traffic information.
Best regards,
Thomas

xenon lights are confirmed and bulbs have been replaced, I’m told.
navigation software? Surely not up to date and not sure it’s worth it with google maps and maze. Feel free to advise.
