So during the removal of my supercharger on my 04 XJR I noticed that the vacuum tube that uses the push in quick disconnect fitting had been destroyed some how. I think I monkey work on this motor before me! As far as I know the little brass and plastic fitting it impossible to find.
I looked all around to find the fitting but no luck. And a whole new elbow that comes with the fitting is way to expensive for what I need. So I went to Lowes to see what I could make. I found a 3/8" compression fitting that I thought will work and decided to do a write up for others.
First take threaded middle piece and carefully screw it into the housing after pushing out the old broken brass fitting. Slowly turn the brass fitting into the housing and if when it starts to get a little tough back it out a little. sometimes I took it all the way back out and then cleaned the thread again and screwed it back it. It kind of like tapping the hole but I didn't have the right size tap, but I figured the aluminum is pretty soft. Here's what it looked like after I screwed the fitting all the way down and then took it back out.
As you can see, the fitting made some new thread into the housing. This is just a vacuum tube so it doesn't need to hold and high pressure, just need to be sealed. Next apply some Teflon tape to the fitting and carefully screw it back in.
Next trim the vacuum hose a little because the new fitting will make it stick out further.
Then put it all together and carefully tighten it all down. Once you snug it all down the fitting will clamp down on the plastic hose and be air tight.
Hope this helps others in the same situation. The part was only like $6, so a lot better than like $1K or what ever the elbow goes for.
This is an old thread but I just found a vacuum leak at this same joint. It is a terrible design as it has a plastic collar and a O-ring which both decay with time and heat. Plus only the entire induction elbow is available for many dollars.
Can't get just the hose section.
I think it's only found on the 4.2L SC in all Jaguars.
I plan to copy your repair and I hope it's been holding up OK?

Those look the same but seem to be being replaced on X308s. I wonder if they are the exact same size? At any rate I am happy with my repair, there should be no failure in the future due to plastic clips or O-rings. I would still recommend this repair over the OEM style to anyone that has the throttle body off. But still good to get more options and info out about these things to keep repair cost down.

I did find one comment by a Jag tech Brutal. He states there are three different sizes of this brass/O-ring part but I have seen several XJR guys claim it worked and my STR has exactly the same SC intake elbow as the SC 4.2L in the XJR.
Still like your idea as it seems a more permanent fix. May just get the factory brass part and the compression fitting so when I take it apart for the second time I can go either way.

Alternate Fix to Brake Booster Pipe - Cleaner Fit and Versatility

I have the infamous booster fitting leak. Replaced the o ring and collar with the Jaguar OEM part 2 years ago. Leaking again so bad my car cannot pass inspection w/o throwing a P0171. Hour and 10 minutes later!
Hate to revive an old thread but I feel it necessary. i was going down the compression fitting route, but the connections felt "loose" before tightening and I wanted a cleaner look.
With technology evolving I discovered an alternative solution to the OEM set up. Check out the pictures.
Take the vacuum hose end, which is 8.4mm and sand it down (by hand) with 80 grit sand paper (wet) and get the diameter down to 8.0mm. (check constantly with a caliper) focus on about 3/4 of the tube insert before the bump as that is how far it will go into the fitting once sanded down.
Then take some oil and sand the fitting smooth on a 2,000 grit sanding block w/ oil. Use the connector as a tap or use a 3/8 NPT tap and thread into the plenum. (Aluminum)
Benefits:
No cutting the vacuum hose, factory look and you have rotational ability with the hose once connected and it will still not leak.
Tested this set up under 26.5" vacuum for over an hour and did not leak whatsoever.
This fitting (10 of them) 3/8 NPT and 8mm fitting runs $14.99 on Amazon. (They do have a purchase option of 2 - but wanted it here sooner to test out my idea)

Hope this helps as the OEM connector is an eventual disaster. I want this one and done!
