Navigation DVD Player Bypass?
Dear Forum,
I have the all too common blank telematics screen. Like most, it started by flickering when coming on, then delays which gradually got longer. Now it comes on very occasionally and when it does it works perfectly?
I have tried everything in the existing posts; had the player out and cleaned the laser etc. I have code B2208, but I have checked the wiring and connectors, ground etc?
The navigation DVD is useless to me. Here in Dubai, the road system changes on a daily basis; even Google Maps struggles to keep up! However, useless or not, it appears to dictate whether you can use all of the other important functions on the touchscreen? I do not use the CD Changer, I have a bluetoothed connection to my rear entertainment module?
I see no point in replacing (at great expense) the useless player with another second-hand useless player?
Given all of the excellent electronic wizards we have on this forum and how common this problem seems to be, it is strange that we have not yet managed to find a suggested workaround?
I would like to discard the player or create a (I don’t know…A loop?)…Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Maybe it's related to the actual screen?
The nav module has the software built in - it's not read off the DVD (except on an update - do not attempt one!) and it sounds as though your module may well be fine.

What a PITA...That means I have to pull the centre console!
You can get part #XR837746 which is the female optical loop and try to narrow down possible causes between amp, DVD, voice, etc. Search eBay for one. I had a bad DVD changer that was causing the radio to be intermittent. I bypassed it with the loop and all is good. Also, there is a connection in the trunk that connects the front optical harness to the back harness. Some have had the connection become loose causing similar problems.
Gonna be looking into JagV8 & Freewifi's suggestions this coming weekend.
Meantime, how weird is this:
I switch on in the morning...No screen. I drive my wife to her work (7kms there and 7 back)...No screen. I go down to my car a few hours later, switch on...Screen! Next morning...No screen?
This happens each and every day?!

EsRay:
Did you ever find out what was wrong with your screen. My screen comes on and goes off like your screen did. Any info on what you did to fix it?

That's how fluorescent lights behave when you need to change the tube.
I believe that there is a tube about 4mm dia, which illuminates the screen
and 4mm tubes can be bought

Did not know that the display could be accessed with the screen light lnot working.
Thats been my main concern, as the navigation maps have become a bit outdated.
Still can be somewhat usefull in an unfamillar area to you though.

In all the years the website has been open to us, there should be a protocol on how to fix this problem. There are many many posts on people with this problem. Can you just replace the 4mm tube or is there another screen we can use besides the Jag screen? My Jag mechanic tells me its the screen. I have ordered another screen and we will see if this fixes the problem.
I bought a used OEM replacement off of Ebay. I don't know if it is any good but I have a 30 days return policy if not. There is a place that completely rebuilds the screen module. Here is the link https://jagaux.com/product/jagaux-conversion-kit/ I am looking into this too. My Jag mechanic said that this company had problems with a electrical drain after the car was turned off. I asked Jaguax about this. They replied that they have corrected that problem. After all is said and done it looks like around the same price to have Jagaux rebuild your screen unit. Look at their website. The screen looks good after they are finished as well as they have added many additions.
JDog, seems at first sight good looking for the price? May well be a good solution for you? Compared to the USD 800 - USD1,000 for the Chinese 9 inch Tesla-style android screens?
No good for me though, I have the good old tape deck and a delaminating screen! I already have Google maps, car Alpine Premium controlled AUX-in audio etc access via my rear entertainment module with bluetooth and a driver - accessible mounted screen.
So, what I need is a simple replacement for my OEM screen alone? Sometimes I can see my Climate control settings etc, sometimes I cannot?
Well worth you looking at closely...

Is there a step by step process on determining what part of the nav system is bad? Any one step along the series connection for the nav screen that can fail and the screen will not come on. The voice module, or is it the nav module, or cd module, or the screen. There are ways to loop each module to bypass the module. This will see if it is a bad module. Is there a step by step process listed here to do this as each module is run on series?

I looked into your type of problem briefly and found a supplier of tubes in the USA but
have no link sorry.
BBA reman in Sittingbourne have gone bust unfortunately but there is a new company
in Rochester called Remanx.
I suggest that you could give them a ring and ask for advice.
Cheers
