Hi
I have a 97 XK8 (imported from USA - I live in Norway) and want to give IDS / SDD a try.
But, what do I use for communications these days, where do I buy a usable Mongoose cable, or other usable pass-through connection?
I purchased this (see link below) a couple of weeks ago but have yet to try it out because I'm having trouble finding a Windows 7 operating system. I ordered it with the OPTIONAL SOFTWARES FOR SDD: FULL CLASSICAL JAGS PACKAGE 1995 TO 2006 IDS V124 V130. Total cost was Ł209.00. It arrived on time and the software is provided on a 16gb USB memory stick. it looks like a genuine product and not a Chinese copy but I really won't know if it works until I get a copy of windows 7. When I was researching this I remember a post that said you need to set your computer date to something like 2014 and not have it connected to the internet when you start the IDS software.
U usually need to have a virtual computer running an old date and operating system to make it work.
Its pretty straightforward, but make the interface run slow

The appearance of the Chinese clones is very similar to that of the genuine Drew Technologies Mongoose cable, but when last available, the genuine ones cost $650.00, so the one you purchased is definitely a Chinese clone.
The versions of SDD/IDS I use the most are v130.03 and v134. As far as I know, neither would install in Windows 7. They run in Windows XP Pro. So I run them on a Windows 7 laptop in separate virtual machines set up with XP Pro as the OS. Before running SDD, I set the laptop date to August 1, 2012, and disconnect the laptop from the Internet so SDD does not try to connect to the Jaguar corporate website to authenticate or update.
SDD is basically a huge library of web pages, which is a key reason it runs so slowly. The newer versions run a little faster than the older ones, are more consistently successful in reading a car's VIN, and are slightly less prone to crashing.

You only need the battery maintainer / power supply if you intend to update or program electronic control modules. You don't strictly need it for basic diagnostic work, but it will certainly help keep the system voltage up.

Thanks a lot for the help!
I think I will go for a Chinese Mongoose cable (from aliexpress?).
I will use the Virtual Machine SDD SW mentioned here: https://www.jaguarforum.com/threads/...nstall.108460/
on an old Dell laptop running LinuxMint.
As for power supply, should I need to program anything, I will modify a Server Power Supply as mentioned here (thanks to panthera999 for pointing it out):

as my French is not that good, I can understand quite a bit but writing is an other matter, I am replying in English.
Unfortunately, you do not write what car you have (this information is always very helpful), but assuming that you are in the right forum and you have a X350/X358/X358, I would say that the software you have bought (V163) is not compatible with your car as it is too new.
The best versions for these models seem to be V125, V130.03, And/or V134 as stated by Don, together with a mongoose (original or clone) or the original VCM interface, which is quite expensive and difficult to find.
thank you for answer car it is a xe diesel 2015 it is ok for mongoose because the system changed in 2017 pathfinder . i opened the cable here are the pictures wires tampered wit
h in the printed circuit
Hi Alain,
ok, but then you are in the wrong forum. This is the forum for the XJ type X350/X356/X358, built between 2003 and 2009.
You will get more help in the correct forum.
Best regards,
Thomas

The OBD2 usb J2534 interface communicates with the car and the SDD software without turning on the ignition. If I switch on my OBD2 cable even without connecting it to the PC, they light up all the lights on my dashboard and errors. Could someone tell me where I can buy a not too expensive OBD2 usb J2534 interface for Jaguar?. The program works well.
Thank you in advance.
Welcome to the forums Alain,
Most sellers of pirate SDD software also sell clone Mongoose cables. Suitable for diagnostics but I wouldn't risk programming with that combination.
