My hood release needs to be pulled to the limit of the plastic lever.
Now I am in fear, that some day the hood will no longer open.
Is there a way to tighten the hood release cable in order to gain more reserve at my plastic lever ?

I would be inclined to look into replacing the hood cable, they can get stiff and also corroded and it makes it more difficult to open the hood/bonnet. It is better to replace it while you can actually get the bonnet open as otherwise if it eventually breaks then it is a more difficult task to get it open when you cannot use the release lever.
Been there myself so really advise you to look into it now.

I had one fitted in my last X350 and the one in my current X350 needs doing anytime now, due to have it done within the next couple of weeks when I have a bit of spare time to take it in. Not sure on lifespan as I suppose it depends if the cat is stored outside etc. Mine is a 2004 and I have had it for 4 years so I don’t know if it has been replaced before

In the UK we would say Bonnet release cable, I have a feeling they are about £35 to £40 as a guide.

A few years ago this guy posted this, it may help you if you are going to attempt to do the job yourself

If you're reasonably good at auto-DIY, it is not a hard job. Best to try to re-route the cable a bit as Jaguar did on the later years cars. These cables just rust up and when fitting the new one, make sure you lubricate it well, something that Jaguar never did.
