Hello all, I am the new owner of a 05 x350 Lwb! I love it so far and have a couple issues to deal with but one is this leak! It’s under car right next to the oil pan and I will attach pictures! It has leaked a puddle the size of like a shirt. I believe it’s the transmission cooler lines and have been reading about the repair. Could someone else help me identify that it is the tranny cooler lines?
any help identifying or advice on the issue is appreciated thanks!
Yes, those are the trans cooler lines and if they are leaking that much you have to remedy, quickly or risk burning your trans out!!!
Common ussue.
Lots of info here. Both replacing with new lines from Jaguar and how. (ROYAL PITA) or much better, stronger, long lasting, permanent options that can leave most of the lines in the car.
Thank you for your response! I have researched changing the fluid and pan and confidently can do that. I’m not confident yet in fixing this leak and could use guidance to pages about the problem. I am wondering if I can fix it with car ramps working from below and above(removing a few parts) . And the specifics about where to cut because I’d prefer to keep the old line in and fix it without removing it. But I feel like once I get better eyes on it the work should be more straight forward.
Chris, Best bet is to leave aluminum lines in situ. Carefully cut off crimp shells, and replace flex sections with 1/2" ID trans cooler hose, double clamping to ensure no leakage.
I'm about to do this on my XJR, which is undergoing valley hose replacement. The flex sections on my car are just beginning to seep.
I plan to use a dremel cutting disc. Access to lines is eased by removing air filter box and lower radiator hose. You can do this with ramps, etc
Do a forum search, and you'll find pics of the process. Note: I do not recommend cutting aluminum lines. Just remove the crimp shell. This will retain hose barbs, plus make repair sections secure and of appropriate length
Hope this helps. PM me if questions...
Jackra_1 I have had the leak since I bough the car. It’s been sitting for 4 months. I noticed the leak early on when moving it in and out of garage but I thought it was an engine oil leak due to my ignorance and lack of research. Now I’m like ohhh blank... so I’m here to do it right! I driven at good speeds and the transmission feels good, but I’m obviously concerned. First I will try to fix the leak. Second I will change the transmission pan and fluid because I just gotta see what it looks like in there. Then maybe mechatronics out! Did I mention this jag has almost 187,000 miles
And again on the leak. As of now it’s not leaking I presume because the fluid is so low. My estimate of the amount that came out is me cleaning up a small puddle about 10 separate times when I moved the car.
Hisport, thanks for that info! I have a dremel and will try exactly what you said with some info from all the posts. here is a picture the car. I like so very much.
